ST. MARYS â€“ Ridgway boys basketball advanced to defend their Holiday Tournament title with a 64-48 victory over St. Marys in the nightcap of the first day of the Elk County Holiday Basketball Tournament Friday night at St. Marys Area High School.
A strong start in the first quarter ultimately proved to be the difference in the game as Ridgway burst out to a 25-8 lead at the end of the opening eight minutes.
ST. MARYS â€“ The Johnsonburg Rams advanced to the championship game of the Elk County Boys' Holiday Basketball Tournament with a 60-33 victory over the Elk County Catholic Crusaders Friday night at St. Marys Area.
The Rams will meet the Ridgway Elkers tonight at 8 p.m. for the county tournament crown. Elk Catholic will meet St. Marys Area this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the consolation game. Ridgway defeated St. Marys 64-48 in the other contest.
ST. MARYS â€“Â The Johnsonburg Ramettes coasted to an easy 59-13 victory over winless Ridgway in the first round of the Elk County Holiday Basketball Tournament.
With the win, Johnsonburg will play today in the title game against Elk County Catholic. The starting time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Ramettes own a 47-44 victory Dec. 12 over ECC, the first win over their county rival in Johnsonburg head girls varsity basketball coach Mike Zilkofski's eight-year career.
