August 3rd
Elk County has been a land of firsts for Nick Mirra.
Mirra debuted in 2009 and won his first match here, then won the CWF (Championship Wrestling Federation) Allegheny Mountains Championship last year in the area.
Now, he defends that title for the first time Saturday as he is scheduled to face “Hot Stuff” Chris Marx at the Ridgway Rumble put on by CWF as a benefit for the Bodien family. The show is slated to start at 7 p.m. at the Central Hose Company along North Broad Street in Ridgway.
August 2nd
The Rising Stars 16U boys traveled to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the 2011 Division II AAU Nationals from July 25-30.
Current Ridgway basketball players Eric Matheson and Sam Roselli were part of this AAU team.
July 31st
The third annual Ridgway YMCA Kids Triathlon was held July 30 with 14 triathletes participating. Based at the Ridgway YMCA, the event consisted of swimming, biking, and running. The swim leg was held in the YMCA pool, and the bike and run legs were held on nearby streets. The transition area for T1 (swim to bike) and T2 (bike to run) was located behind the former Ridgway Armory building.
