JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes waited nearly a month to finish the game and then they nearly lost it at the end.
Johnsonburg took a five-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but the Lady Elkers battled back and had the game-tying run aboard before a groundout ended the game.
The contest was originally halted after three-and-a-half innings April 12 as a torrential downpour in Ridgway halted play with Johnsonburg leading 11-7.
Johnsonburg baseball won 16-0 in three innings over Ridgway Monday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes used two big innings Monday to surge past the visiting Lady Elkers in an 8-3 victory at Knothole Recreational Park.
Deadlocked in a 2-2 game, the Ramettes exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and another three in the sixth inning to secure the victory.
DuBOIS - St. Marys Area’s Brandon Romain won the District 9-AA Singles Tennis Championship Monday afternoon at the DuBois Area High School courts.
Romain defeated DuBois Central’s David Gangeware 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match.
Brandon started the day by defeating Brockway’s Fabio Fortunato 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Romain beat DuBois Central’s Kevin Blakely 6-2, 6-0 to reach the finals.
Romain’s teammate Keith Meyer lost in the quarterfinals to Elk County Catholic’s Ben Wortman 6-4, 3-6, 0-6.
Wortman lost in the semifinals to DCC’s Gangewere 6-2, 6-3.
