One game of the 2011 season sticks out to Pittsburgh Pirates fans.
The Pirates lost 4-3 to the Atlanta Braves in a game which started on July 26 and didn’t end until the early morning hours of July 27 when a missed call at home plate allowed the winning run to score for the Braves.
MLB later acknowledged the call was missed by home plate umpire Jerry Meals.
Daniel McCutchen ended up being the losing pitcher that night but only after he pitched 5 1-3 innings and allowed just that one run at the end of the game. He said the atmosphere itself was a fun one.
ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team raised their record to 2-0 on the young season as they won their home opener last night over the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 52-39 score.

The second half found Elk Catholic outscoring Johnsonburg 29-15 to win the game.

A perfect night for Ridgway boys basketball.
Ridgway used a suffocating full-court press and a long third-quarter run as Ridgway won 74-53 over Smethport Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
From the attention given to the Elker senior point guard after the game, there was little doubt whose night this was.
JOHNSONBURG – Behind the white-hot trio of Cameron Grumley, Quinn Luhr and Cole Peterson, the Johnsonburg Rams never trailed Tuesday night in a 52-35 runaway victory over visiting Elk County Catholic.

JOHNSONBURG – The Rams (1-0) jumped out to an insurmountable 20-point lead Friday night in a lights-out 60-35 win Friday night in their home opener over county rival St. Marys (0-1).

This was the first game in four years that the Lady Dutch have played without the school’s all-time scorer, Kayla Hoohuli, now a member of the Canisius College Golden Griffs basketball team.
Last night’s game was a close contest for 32 minutes as neither team was able to get a run. The Ramettes led 11-10 after one period, 20-18 at the half and 28-27 at the end of three quarters.
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg wrestling team is looking to the upcoming season with optimism with a mix of new and returning wrestlers.
“We should be a competitive young team,” Johnsonburg coach Mike Votano said. “We have three kids that have wrestled previously who haven’t wrestled in the past couple years but they’re back out on the team.”
Zebb Zilcosky will be wrestling at 126 pounds and Votano said he has high expectations for him along with Cory Schneider at 138 pounds.
Ridgway gymnastics will field a smaller amount of roster members this season and will have a solid core of seniors this season.
“We have a smaller team, we have 11 this year and five are seniors,” Ridgway coach Edna Maddalena said. “This is probably the best mesh, the best group of girls with us getting along and helping each other in the gym that we’ve had.”
