COUDERSPORT â After a nervous start, Ridgway volleyball had an exhilarating finish to earn a trip to the District Final Four.
Ridgway won 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23) over Coudersport in the District 9 Class A volleyball quarterfinals Thursday night at Coudersport High School to become one of the last four teams remaining in the district.
The Lady Elkers now will play Saturday in the Final Four at St. Marys Area High School in pool play. Port Allegany, Clarion and A-C Valley are the other three teams to join the Lady Elkers.
PORT ALLEGANY â Johnsonburg made things interesting with a close first set but were never able to fully regroup in a 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-20) loss Thursday night at No. 1 seed Port Allegany.
âWe didnât really pass well but I thought we were really one hit away from winning that first game but then the second game, our composure went away a little bit,â said Johnsonburg head varsity volleyball coach Bill Shuey. âYou canât win this game if you canât pass the ball.
âI donât think Port Allegany did anything differently to us, I just think we made a few mistakes.â
CLARION â The Clarion Area Lady Bobcat volleyball team eliminated the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders from the District 9-A volleyball tournament Thursday night in a match played at the Clarion Area High School.
Clarion won the first set 25-21, took the second set 25-13 and the third set 25-19.
âWe played well at times in the first and third sets,â said ECCHS coach Diane Gies. âWeâre an inexperienced team playing well at this time of the year against a ranked opponent.
