Marina T. Agens, 86, of 101 N. Mill St., Ridgway, died Sunday, October 16, 2011, in the home of her sister, Beverly MacDonald, at 1533 Front St.
She was born January 30, 1925, in Ridgway, the daughter of the late R. Joseph and Lavina M. Ross Tettis. She married Donald J. Agens, who predeceased her on Februaury 16, 2001.
Mrs. Agens had resided most of her life in Ridgway. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the C.D. of A., and the Ridgway Senior Center.
Milfred H. Nelson, 86, of 201 Depot St., Ridgway, died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, after a brief stay at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Ridgway, son of the late William B. and Grace E. (Gardner) Nelson. He married Betty J. Keneske on Feb. 7, 1945; she preceded him in death on May 31, 2009.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of the Ridgway Area High School. He had been employed by the Elliott Company and then by Motion Control Industries for 40 years.
Pauline M. Neubert, 97, a resident of The Caring Place in Franklin, passed away Oct. 13, 2011, at her residence.
She was born June 7, 1914, in Johnsonburg, the daughter of Vincent and Leonoria Walcak Zawatski. On Oct. 15, 1949, she married Hilary F. Neubert, he predeceased her on April 3, 1974. Mrs. Neubert had recently moved to Franklin from Ridgway, where she had been a resident for 60 years. She was a member of St. Leoâ€™s Catholic Church. She enjoyed bingo, baseball, puzzles and helping others.
Glen R. Forsythe, age 90, of 25 Penn Ave., Ridgway, died Friday morning at Highland View Health Care. He was born May 1, 1921 in Pittsburgh son of the late Charles and Hilda Forsythe. He had lived in Ridgway for the last 28 years and was Protestant by Faith. He had served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He was a self-employed construction worker for many years.
Catherine A. "Kitty" Bergant, 76, of 6515 Ridgway Rd., Johnsonburg, and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 27, 2011 at the residence of her daughter, Toni Ritchey, in Forbes Road.
She was born March 21, 1935 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Patsy and Theresa Steinbach Cherry
On March 2, 1962, in Johnsonburg, she married Donald J. Bergant, who preceded her in death on March 6, 2004.
Edward M. McAlee, age 60, of High Street, Johnsonburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at Geisinger Medical Center of Danville, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 31, 1950 in Ridgway, son of Harold â€śBudâ€ť and Lavina (Roberts) McAlee, deceased.
He worked as a Bell Tone hearing aide salesman, millwright at Johnsonburg paper mill, and manager of the Johnsonburg Elks Club where he also had served as Exalted Ruler. He also owned and operated the Kopper Kettle restaurant of Johnsonburg from October 1999 to May 2011.
Margaret B. Scaccia, 88, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Railroad Street, Daguscahonda, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born February 27, 1923 in Daguscahonda, a daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Frances Bolitiski.
On June 25, 1943 in Daguscahonda, she married the late Henry Scaccia, who preceded her in death in 1983.
LeRoy B. Simons, age 80, of Bridge Street, Johnsonburg, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Elk Haven Nursing Home after a short illness.
He was born Feb. 9, 1931 in Oil City, son of Donald F. and Loretta (Payne) Simons, deceased.
He married Marjorie (Bratton) in 1945 in Bath, England; she survives.
He was a graduate of Hamlin High School in Hazelhurst, received his BS Degree in Business Administration from Tri-State College of Angola, Ind. and attended St. Bonaventure University towards his MBA degree.
He served six years in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Joseph D. McCandless, 32, of 225 South Michael St., St. Marys, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 in Kersey unexpectedly.
He was born February 8, 1979, in Ridgway, son of the late James W. McCandless, who died on Sept. 6, 2007; and Debora Stali McCandless of Dagus Mines, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1999. He was employed at DuBrook, Inc. of St. Marys.
Rev. Richard E. Kneller, age 85, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at St. Maryâ€™s at Asbury Ridge.
He was born June 5, 1926 in Scranton, son of the late Edward S. and Mildred Grieser Kneller, and brother of the late Mildred Elizabeth â€śSueâ€ť Kneller; he was predeceased in June 2010 by his beloved wife of 60 years, Miriam Anne Steiner Kneller. Richard had resided in Erie since 1961 and prior to that had lived in Ridgway, Lancaster, Scranton, and Nazareth.
