Batiste T. "Kack" Franco, 85, of 6478 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Sunday morning, July 13, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1928 in Johnsonburg, son of Batiste and Frances Sirianni Franco.
On Oct. 31, 1950, he married Stephana C. "Steffie" LaFarr in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, and she survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1946.
Paul J. Grieggs, 77, of 232 Monterey Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly on Sunday evening, July 13, 2014.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1936 in St. Marys, a son of the late Thomas and Anna Francis Grieggs.
On May 9, 1958 in St. Leo Church, he married Inez Magrini Grieggs, who survives.
Paul was a lifelong resident of the area, and a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Keystone Carbon Company after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the Elks and enjoyed gardening and sitting on his porch swing.
Daniel A. Thorwart, 83, of 2720 Wilcox Road, Johnsonburg, died Saturday night, July 12, 2014, at the Lutheran Home at Kane following a short illness.
He was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Ridgway, son of the late Luke J. and Johanna E. Polaski Thorwart.
On Jan. 27, 1951, he married Virginia Shaffer by Fr. John A. Kirk and she survives
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1948.
Laura J. Thiry, 97, Johnsonburg, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Lutheran Home in Kane after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 21, 1916 in Clarion County, daughter of the late Merle and Pearl Wolfe.
She was married to Edward A. Thiry, he preceded her in death in 2002.
Laura was Methodist by faith. She loved to play the board game â€śSorry.â€ť
William J. "Bill" Grabofski, 88, of Erie, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Herman and Helen Koppitch Grabofski. He was a former resident of Chelsea Avenue in Erie, and Johnsonburg.
Martha J. Moore, 89, formerly of Johnsonburg and Kane, died Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014 at Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility in Ridgway.
Born Oct. 15, 1924 in Fairmont, W. Va., she was the daughter of Joseph and Vergie Cross Young. On Nov. 12, 1942 in Belington, W. Va., she married Dale E. Moore, who died in 1976.
Martha had been a clerk at the former Market Basket, then drove school bus, bothÂ in Johnsonburg.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness near Kane.
Clara B. Leary, 90, formerly of 501 Smith St., Ridgway, died Friday evening, July 4, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 27, 1924 in Kane, daughter of the late Earl and Iva (Bradybaugh) Young. On Nov. 24, 1945, she married Gerald M. Leary who preceded her in death June 19, 1992.
Clara resided in Ridgway for most of her life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Kane High School. She had been employed by Gorman's for five years as a clerk.
Judith A. Carnesali, 75, of 185 Center St., Elk Towers, and a former resident of Ridgway, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness.
She was born July 21, 1938 in Kersey, daughter of the late Antonio and Julia Gornati Cesa.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1956. Judy was a retired nurse having worked at the former Elk County General Hospital in Ridgway for 20 years and had also worked at Girtonâ€™s Flower Shop in Ridgway for many years.
Bernard A. Goodreau Jr., 81, of 72 Erie Ave., Apt. 203, St. Marys, died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 24, 1932 in St. Marys, son of the late Bernard and Rosella McQuone Goodreau Sr.
In addition to St. Marys, he had also resided in Johnsonburg from 1955 until 2008. He attended St. Marys public schools and retired from Pure Carbon Company in 1995.
On Oct. 1, 1955 in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Louise â€śPattyâ€ť Simchick, who preceded him in death.
Charles A. Vogt, 62, of Fombell, died Monday, June 30, 2014 while in the comfort of his home.
He was born Nov. 21, 1951 in St. Marys, son of the late Charles and Donna (Oâ€™Brien) Vogt.
Charles was employed in the logging business and later operated heavy equipment for 30 years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and pitching horseshoes. Despite his illness, Charles was still able to fully harvest and process his own deer last December. Above all, he loved and cherished his family and friends dearly.
