Myra F. Sarson, 78, of Ava, formerly of State College, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014.
She was born Sept. 9, 1935 in Altoona.
Myra is survived by three children, Brian E. Sarson of Ava and wife Aggie; Carolyn Sarson of Lynchburg, Va. and partner Terry Bettinger; and Melanie Gatehouse of Erie and husband Tom; four grandchildren, Brandy, Colleen, Michelle and Tom Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Malcolm Freeman of Belton, Texas.
Milton Lee Pearson, 79, died Monday, May 5, 2014 of pancreatic cancer.
â€śMiltâ€ť was born May 21, 1934 in Ridgway, son of the late Evan L. Pearson and Helen B. Pearson.
A Ridgway High School graduate, he entered the United States Navy in 1954 and served as a naval photographer aboard the Aircraft carrier, USS Philippine Sea. After an honorable discharge, he attended Rochester Institute of Technology graduating in 1964 with a BS degree in Imaging Science. He worked briefly for Corning Glass researching photosensitive glass products.
Richard W. Luchs, 67, of Houston, Pa., formerly of Las Vegas, Nev., died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the home of his sister, with his loving family at his side.
He was born May 13, 1946 in Ridgway, son of Ida Luchs Knisley and the late Robert Knisley, and was a Lutheran by faith.
James A. "Jimboi" Piccirillo, 73, of 132 Teaberry Rd., St. Marys, died on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1941, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine Rezzelle Piccirillo.
On July 3, 1976 in St. Marys, he married JoAnn Burgeson Piccirillo, who survives.
Michael L. Vanatta, 69, of 2678 Pine Grove Rd., Pennsylvania Furnace, formerly of Johnsonburg, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 11, 1944 in Ridgway, son of the late Hall Dean and Alice Smith Vanatta.
On June 1, 1958 in St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway, he married Linda Hannold, and she survives.
He resided in the State College area since 1991 and graduated from the Johnsonburg High School in 1962. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in electrical engineering in 1990.
Elton W. Snyder, 83, of Water Street, Johnsonburg, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Lutheran Home of Kane after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 7, 1931 in Drumon, son of the late Wallace and Juanita (Matson) Snyder.
On Oct. 27, 1956, he married Nancy (Pennington), and she survives.
He attended Beachwoods School in Jefferson County, and was a Corporal in the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War.
He retired from Sylvania of St. Marys after more than 30 years.
Eugene Joseph Lawrie Sr., 81, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014.
He was born Aug. 27, 1932 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late William and Crecentia (Lake) Lawrie. Eugene was older brother to Raymond (deceased), Robert and Gerald.
He was baptized at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church on Sept. 11, 1932. He graduated from St. Michael's Catholic High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1951 and Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. in 1960 with a B.S. in chemistry.
Rita M. (Smith) Getchell, 86, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at Saint Maryâ€™s Hospital. She was the widow of Francis L. Getchell, the love of her life.
Eva M. Flegal, 84, of 249 West Center St., Johnsonburg, died Sunday afternoon, May 4, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 21, 1929 in Spartansburg, daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Rugar Vanderhoof.
On Sept. 12, 1947 in Warren, she married A. Earl Flegal. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2010.
She resided in Johnsonburg since her marriage and attended school in Spartansburg.
Dorothy M. Luce, 86, of 171 German Settlement Rd., Ridgway, died Friday evening, May 2, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
She is survived by her husband, Harold R. Luce of Ridgway; four daughters, Carol Rae Luchs and her husband Joseph of Portland Mills, Regina Mae Sherwood and her husband Donald of Ridgway, Cheryl Ann Johnson of St. Marys, and Laurene Leuschel and her husband David of St. Marys; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, James Armagost and his wife Connie of Ridgway; one sister, Lucille Grabofski and her husband William of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
