Polly (Baum) Witmer, 54, of Reston, Va., died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Polly was born in Ridgway, daughter of the late Edward and Betty Baum.
She graduated from Johnsonburg Area High School in 1977 and from Mount Aloysius College in 1979. She worked as a certified occupational therapist assistant in Jamestown, N.Y., and Fairfax, Va.
Polly was also a certified massage therapist treating both people and animals. She enjoyed being active outdoors with hiking, skiing, running, scuba diving, rafting, and camping.
Kenneth E. Lecker, 73, of Wilcox, died suddenly Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Kane Community Hospital.
There will be no visitation. Private services will be held at the familiesâ€™ convenience.
Ubel Funeral Home, 111 Bridge St., Johnsonburg, Pa. 15845 is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
Kevin C. White, 61, of 215 Little Ave., Ridgway, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at home with his wife and daughter by his side.
He was born June 7, 1952 in Ridgway, the son of the late Howard and Mary White.
He graduated from Elk County Catholic High School, class of 1970.
On April 18, 1976, he married Linda Parulo.
Perry D. Stahli, 69, of North Mill Street, Ridgway, formerly of Johnsonburg, died suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at his home.
He was born April 22, 1944 in Johnsonburg, the son of the late Michael and Garnet (Wolf) Stahli. A Lutheran by faith, he enjoyed playing bingo, and watching wrestling, the Pirates, and old westerns on television.
Rudolph J. "Rudy" Pretak, 88, of 621 Horner Rd., Wilcox, died Friday morning, Feb. 28, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 16, 1925 in Wilcox, son of the late Stephen and Mary Bursuda Pretak.
He married Mae E. Maiers on Feb. 18, 1950 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. She preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2000.
He resided in Wilcox all his life, attended Wilcox High School, and was a member of St. Anne's Church and the Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.
Virginia Busatto Westover, 88, died in Bluffton, S.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014.
She was born in Challenge on Nov. 1, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Arthur John Busatto and Angelina Ronca Busatto.
She is survived by one son, John S. Westover of Bluffton, SC; one daughter, Diana (Bernie) Seighman of Bluffton, SC; five grandchildren, John S. Westover II, James (Sabrina) Westover, Travis Westover, Christopher Westover and Gary (Jennifer) Seighman; and two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Evan.
She was predeceased by eight sisters and four brothers.
Kenneth E. (Duck) Gasbarre Sr., 57, of 155 Main St., Ridgway, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 10, 1956, son of the late Richard G. and Zelma L. (Gearhart) Gasbarre.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a 1974 graduate of the Ridgway High School.
He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, going to camp, and socializing with his friends. He had been employed by Elk County Heat Treaters for the last 22 years.
Theodore Lindenmuth, 76, of Ridgway, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys.
He was born Aug. 18, 1937 in Bigler Township, son of the late George W. and Catherine McDermott Lindenmuth.
His wife, Evelyn Edelfraud Schaffler Lindenmuth, who was originally from Augsburg, Germany, survives.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1969, and was a Vietnam era veteran. He was stationed abroad in Korea, Lebanon, and Germany, where he met his wife.
Thomasina "Tommie" (Giffi) Hanlon-Werschek, 87, of Lincoln, Neb. formerly of Philadelphia, died at 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 22, 2014 in Lincoln.
Born Nov. 9, 1926 in Ridgway, to Carmen and Clotilda (Judice) Giffi.
She spent over 50 years as a dedicated registered nurse in Philadelphia.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard W. Hanlon; her second husband, Harry Raymond Werschek; two sisters, Mary Sue Grandinetti and Rosina (Rose) Olay; and three brothers, Frank Charles Giffi, Nickolas C. Giffi and Joseph James Giffi.
Harry J. "Buck" Sample, 86, of 61 Kane St., Wilcox, died Friday evening, Feb. 21, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, following a short illness.
He was born June 30, 1927 in Instanter, son of John "Jack" Samuel and Dorothy Kemp Sample.
He married Dolores Rusalem on July 28, 1951 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. She died Jan. 8, 2008.
He attended Wilcox schools and resided in Wilcox all his life.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Rasselas, Wilcox American Legion Post 467, and the Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.
