Joan G. Verbka, 69, of 276 Coal Hollow Rd., Kersey, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Penn Highlands Elk.
She was born July 24, 1944 in Anita, daughter of the late Matthew and Helen Anderson Gresock. On July 24, 1965 in the St. Josephâ€™s Church in Anita, she married Rudy Verbka who survives.
She was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Class of 1962 and had been a lifelong resident of the Kersey area. She served as the church secretary at St. Boniface Church for 30 years and still worked as a columnist for the local newspapers.
Melvin R. Hoffman, 70, of 415 Allenhurst Ave., Ridgway, died on April 19, 2014.
He was born on July 8, 1943 in St. Marys, son of the late Andrew and Margaret Eckert Hoffman. He was the loving husband and best friend to Gloria M. Roseto, who he married on Nov. 26, 1964 at St. Leo's Catholic Church where he was a member. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School.
Betty L. Walters, 89, of 78 Horner Rd., Wilcox, died Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2014 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 22, 1924 in Wilcox, daughter of the late Robert and Ida Magnuson Whippo.
She married Clyde T. Walters Sr. on July 3, 1942 in Smethport, and he survives.
She resided in Wilcox all her life and attended Wilcox High School. She was a member of Wilcox Presbyterian Church. She was an excellent cook, baker, and was most comfortable being a homemaker. She was also employed by Stackpole Carbon Co. in St. Marys for five years.
Nancy Josephine Zameroski Root,Â 58, of North East, died on Friday, April 18, 2014 at UPMC HamotÂ after a short illness with breast cancer.
She was born on Jan. 9, 1956 in Ridgway to Catherine Scarfo Zameroski of North East and the late Henry (Hank) Zameroski (May 10, 1986).
Nancy was a graduate of North East High School and attended Slippery Rock University and Gannon University where she studied counseling psychology.
She was formerly employed at the GertrudeÂ A. Barber Center as a behavior therapist and was currently employed as a Title Abstractor.
Theresa A. Murray, 67, of 115 Kings Point, Glenshaw, died Thursday evening, April 17, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
She was born June 6, 1946 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Ferdinand "Fred" and Agnes Myers Calla. On Oct. 10, 1975, she married Patrick J. Murray and he survives.
She graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1964 and resided in Glenshaw for the past 34 years.
She was a member of St. Sebastian Church. She was employed by Keystone Carbon Co. for several years and Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital for several years.
Chad M. Meals, 38, of 95 Hospital St., Ridgway, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born Dec. 29, 1975 in Ridgway, son of Samuel Meals of New York and the late Tina Shrefler.
Chad enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Patricia L. Gavazzi, 80, of 185 Center St., St. Marys, formerly of Kane Street, Wilcox, died Friday morning, April 18, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, following a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 13, 1933 in Wilcox, daughter of Alfred and Anna Halquist Lundberg.
She has been married to Aldo Gavazzi for the past 59 years, marrying on Nov. 13, 1954, and he survives.
She resided in Wilcox all her life and was a Wilcox High School graduate.
Martha Jane Livingston, 94, of Palm Coast, Fla., died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Flagler Pines Nursing Home, Bunnell, Fla.
Mrs. Livingston, a resident of Palm Coast since 2008 coming from Leigh Acres, Fla., was born in Ridgway on Dec. 18, 1919, a daughter of the late Daniel Irving and Anna Zwald Law.
She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed caring for her husband and family. She loved to cook, bake, sew and read.
Deborah D. Moriarity, 49, of 372 Grant St., St. Marys, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at her home following a long battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 29, 1964 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Jerome and Mary Brown Moriarity.
Deb was a graduate of SMAHS and had been employed at Eastern Sintered Alloys, where she worked for more than 15 years.Â She enjoyed drawing, going for walks, and her pets. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children.
Beth Sweeney Kuttler, 53, died March 20, 2014, surrounded by family on the first day of spring 2014 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Beth was born to the late Eugene and Georgia Sweeney in St. Marys, on Feb. 1, 1961.
