Dorothy M. Nelson, age 93, of 675 Montmorenci Rd. and formerly of 16 South St., Ridgway, died Friday evening at the Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility. She was born February 27, 1918 in Sharpsburg, daughter of the late J. Walter and Vera (Knudsen) Deet. She married Arthur F. Nelson on May 12, 1939 he preceded her in death on May 15, 1965. She had resided in Ridgway for most of her life and had also lived in the Villages, Fla. for four years. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, a past member of the C.D.
Ronald J. Salvetto, 56, formerly of 566 Rock St., Ridgway, died Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 15, 1955 in DuBois, son of Pauline A. Salvetto and the late James J. Salvetto.
He had resided in Ridgway for many years and was a former Erie resident. He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1973, and had attended Penn State. He had been employed by the Gertrude Barber Center in Erie for 10 years and Hamot Medical Center in Erie for 14 years.
William Bruce Beck, age 90, of Pleasant Drive, Warren, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie.
Born Oct. 5, 1920 in Renovo, a son of Harold Reed Beck and Ruby Losey Beck, he married Betty Jane Caldwell in Brookville on Aug. 11, 1951; she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 2003.
He was a World War II veteran having served with the Army Air Corps 439th Troop Carrier Group, 93rd Troop Carrier Squadron as a glider pilot and also was a veteran of the Korean Conflict in the 1094th Special Reporting Squadron as an Air Force officer at Manzano Base in Albuquerque, N.M.
E. Tom Wolff, 65, of 4172 Grant Rd., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at his residence.
He was born Dec. 26, 1945 in Ridgway, son of the late Clarence H. (Pug) and Ruby M. (Amacher) Wolff.
He married Judy L. Ecklund on Sept. 30, 1967. She survives.
Kenneth L. (Chunk) Danekas, 33, of 28 Lincoln St., Ridgway, died Thursday morning, July 7, 2011, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 10, 1977, in Sycamore, Ill., son of David D. and Jane M. (Fischer) Danekas. He married Kerri E. Brendel on June 19, 2004.
He had resided in Ridgway for 19 years and was a former Janesville, Wisc. resident. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the U.S. Bowling Congress.
David J. "Bud" Silvis, 86, of 152 Baumer Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Pinecrest Manor after an illness of the past several months.
He was born on March 27, 1925, in St. Marys, the son of the late David and Irene Cheatle Silvis. In November 1949 at St. Agnes Episcopal Church, he married Loraine E. Overturf, who preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1999.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He was employed as a chemical engineer at the Stackpole Carbon Co., retiring in 1983.
Donald C. Smoot Jr., age 62, of Stump Creek, formerly of Ridgway for many years, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at his residence after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 29, 1948, in Philadelphia, son of Donald Sr. and Elizabeth (Herens) Smoot, deceased. He married Sandra (Thompson) Smoot, also of Stump Creek; she survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during Vietnam. He was formerly an orderly at Elk Regional Health Center in Ridgway and was Catholic by faith. He attended Bishop Newman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and enjoyed camping.
David J. Hanlin, age 75, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday June 21, 2011 at â€śEagles Nest,â€ť his acreage of timber and wetlands in Corry. He was pursuing his passion of habitat enhancement to aid wildlife.
Elsie L. Rogers, age 82, of 420 Lookout Ave., Ridgway, died Friday morning at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness. She was born Aug. 28, 1928 in Franklin, daughter of the late Carl M. and Elizabeth (Bennett) Henderson. She married Vernon E. Rogers on Jan. 10, 1952, he survives. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, was a past volunteer at Elk County General Hospital Thrift Shop, loved to play cards, go camping with her family, fish and play the slot machines.
She was a graduate of the Franklin High School.
David S. Lowdermilk, age 75, of 111 Filmore Ave., Ridgway died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his residence.
