Greer Hayden of HHSDR, Inc., an architecture and engineering firm based in Sharon, attended the recent Ridgway School Board workshop meeting in order to provide status updates on the progress of the pending roof project for Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
The Elk County Board of Commissioners on Monday morning voted to accept a proposed 2014 budget with a one-mill increase, the first hike since 2009. The budget will be displayed for 20 days at the commissioners' office in the Courthouse Annex along Center Street in Ridgway.
ST. MARYS â€“ Despite recent rumors circulating throughout the region, officials at Elk Regional Health Center said Monday morning that they have no plans to close the establishment's maternity ward.

That was the message Monday morning from Gary Anderson, a St. Marys City councilman who said he was attending a county board of commissioners meeting in an unofficial capacity as a taxpayer.
The issue for Anderson is the distribution of liquid fuels funds disbursed throughout the county.
The state's liquid fuels program funds a range of projects to support municipalities' construction, reconstruction, maintenance and repair of public roads or streets.
ST. MARYS â€“ Six officers from Elk County Catholic High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter were among over 800 students who attended the FBLA State Leadership Workshop at the Penn State Hotel and Conference Center in State College on Nov. 10-11.
Students of Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School performed "Fiddler on the Roof Jr." Friday and Saturday evening for a full house at the Ridgway Area High School Auditorium.
Students in the Elk County Catholic School System (ECCSS) recently presented Elk Regional Health Center with a check for $2,739 to benefit their Women's Imaging Center. The funds were raised during Pink Day activities at the Catholic elementary, middle, and high school.
The Ridgway Borough traffic and parking committee recently recommended a 60-day trial period for getting rid of the parking meters along Main Street. The trial period will see the parking meters covered, and if successful, the meters will reportedly be permanently removed.
Several ties were settled Friday afternoon during a Board of Elections meeting at the Elk County Courthouse Annex.
The First Presbyterian Church of Ridgway will be hosting their annual Candle and Carol service on Dec. 8 at 3:30 p.m. It will be the 83rd year for this celebration to mark the start of the Christmas season.
