Elk County residents may soon see some relief in the form of low-interest loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA) following a disastrous flooding incident that ravaged the area two weeks ago.

SMETHPORT â€“ It's now up to the jury to decide the fate of a Mt. Jewett man charged with rape.
Paul Ray Swank, 33, of 7 Chestnut St., Mt. Jewett, is accusing a raping a former Mt. Jewett woman. She was 26 years old at the time of the alleged rape on Nov. 2, 2012 at a secluded area near Hutchins.
The Kane Republican does not publish the names of alleged sexual assault victims.
Two days of testimony in the trial at the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport wound up Tuesday afternoon.
A Ridgway man is set to go to trial at Elk County Courthouse on Thursday, June 5 on charges of statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors and indecent assault on a person less that 16 years of age.
Charges were filed in September 2013 against Brandon James Ecklund, 23, of 4236 Grant Rd., Ridgway. Police report that on Aug. 20, 2013, the victim's mother came into the Ridgway Borough Police station with her daughter, 14, to report that her daughter had had sex with Ecklund, who was 22 at the time.
County commissioners on Tuesday morning voted to swap security companies for the Elk County Courthouse's single point of entry.
Allied Barton had been providing security for the courthouse at $17.10 an hour. Kellington Protection Services has now taken over security responsibilities at the courthouse at $16.50 an hour.
The Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for another one of their First Friday Events in order to promote their goal of "Shop Local" as well as offer area residents a chance to get together in downtown Ridgway on a Friday evening.
June's event is "Talented Town," an open mic night to be held at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6.
Elk County and its 12 municipalities will benefit from over $1 million in funding from Act 13 Marcellus Shale Impact Fees and greenways funding.
At the county level, the impact fees distributed totals $350,665.54 along with greenways funding totaling $30,233.25.
The county commissioners in early May announced the establishment of a grant program designed for the redistribution of a portion of their allocation of the Act 13 Marcellus Shale Impact Fee for local projects.

BENEZETTE TWP. â€“ Two Bradford residents suffered major injuries Saturday evening on Homestead Drive near the Elk Country Visitor Center.
The crash occurred on at 7:28 p.m. as a 2013 BMW K1500 GTL motorcycle, operated by Daniel S. Hushon, 40, of Bradford, was traveling south on Homestead Drive. Hushon reportedly passed another vehicle and lost control of the motorcycle. It exited the roadway and both Hushon and a passenger, Ashley J. Beckwith, 30, also of Bradford, were thrown from the motorcycle.
The Ridgway Area High School Class of 2014 graduated Friday night in a ceremony held at Memorial Field in Ridgway.
A total of 55 students are a part of this year's high school graduating class.
The students walked across the football field to "Pomp and Circumstance" which was performed by the Ridgway High School band.
Anna Hoyt, Katy Mazur and Abby Fullem performed the national anthem before the RHS band performed the alma mater.
The band then performed "To Challenge the Skies and Heavens Above" by Robert W. Smith.
