JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg High School basketball coach William Shuey was recently recognized during a council meeting for his role in leading the Rams to the PIAA Class A Championship. "The kids really enjoyed how the community rallied around them," Shuey said. "I know they were feeling kind of bad coming back from Hershey but when we showed up in town their spirits were lifted." With the Boston area population on edge during a massive manhunt to locate Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and suspect in Monday's Boston Marathon bombings, local law enforcement officials on Friday shared their thoughts with the search and the differences in such practices in the immediate area.
ST. MARYS – Police were called to a St. Marys home late Thursday night when a burglary turned into a violent encounter between the homeowner and an intruder reportedly high on the stimulant drug known as bath salts.
The Ridgway Area School District's Students of the Month were honored during a school board meeting.

ST. MARYS – Work to improve a northern section of Route 255 in the City of Saint Marys began late last month. The project stretches from the Tractor Supply intersection to Route 120/State Street in Saint Marys. Work this year will concentrate on the section between Wendy’s Burgers and Satterlee Fueling.

ERIE – A St. Marys man charged with siphoning off a half-million dollars from a local animal shelter and rescue as well as clients of his own financial service companies, pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering Thursday in an Erie federal court.
State Representative Matt Gabler met with local human service agencies Thursday morning to hold a discussion concerning Governor Tom Corbett's budget proposal and county block grant program.

The Ridgway YMCA will once again hold Healthy Kids Day this Friday, April 19 at the popular North Broad Street facility in Ridgway.
ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic High School students are bringing the colorful and unique world of Dr. Seuss to life in 'Seussical,' as part of the school's annual musical production. Curtains open this evening at 7 p.m. with additional showtimes set for Friday and Saturday evening and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Municipal Authority okayed the payment of a fine to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] for the failure to submit requested documents in accordance with a compliance schedule as part of a consent order and agreement during a regular meeting Tuesday night.
