30-year EMS vet serves as ambulance manager

Since Jan. 1, Bob Marnatti, a Ridgway native, has been managing almost 25 men and women through his position as the manager of the Ridgway Ambulance Corporation.
Through this position, Marnatti is responsible for managing operations, personnel, finance, billing and day-to-day operation for the Ridgway Ambulance Corporation.
Marnatti's career in the emergency medical services field started early as he volunteered with the Ridgway Ambulance Corporation before turning 18.

Authority looking at abutting property

The Elk County Solid Waste Authority is looking at the possibility of purchasing property that abuts their current piece of land in St. Marys that will be used for a new recycling center.
They previously purchased roughly 1.3 acres from North Central Enterprise for $11,000. St. Marys Holdings reportedly owns land abutting the property and is in the process of developing the site. There is a 1.879 acre parcel of land that will not be used in the development that is being offered to the authority.

May is National Mental Health Month celebrated

May was proclaimed National Mental Health Month in 2013 by President Barack Obama in an effort to bring the issue of mental health to the forefront of the country's thoughts.
Kathy Kroeger, administrator for Cameron and Elk Counties Behavioral and Developmental Programs, highlighted various mental health issues Monday morning during a presentation.

Primary election loaded with candidates

The primary election will be held Tuesday, May 19 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote in the primary to cast ballots for candidates seeking party nominations.
The winners of party nominations in the primary will be on the ballot for the general election Nov. 3. There are a large number of candidates in several county races, most notably for county commissioner as there are 12 names on the ballot.

Vendur new assistant at county VA office

There is a new yet familiar face welcoming veterans to the county's Veterans' Affairs office.
Lana Vendur, a 1989 graduate of St. Marys Area High School and club manager of American Legion Post 511 in Dagus Mines is the new assistant at the Elk County Veterans' Affairs office.

Zoning ordinance hearing set for June 16

Amid strong criticism on the ordinance from one supervisor, the Ridgway Township Supervisors set June 16 as the date of a public hearing on an amendment to the township's zoning ordinance that aims to address the oil and gas industry.
Ridgway Township Supervisor Millie Bowers said Friday that the supervisors unanimously approved a motion to set the date for the hearing, adding that the supervisors will consider adoption of the ordinance June 16 after the public hearing commences.

PSP investigates DUI crash in Ridgway Twp.

The Ridgway-based state police report investigating a DUI crash that occurred Thursday morning at approximately 4:55 a.m. on state Route 219 near Boot Jack Auto in Ridgway Township.
A known 59-year-old male was reportedly traveling south on SR 219 in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado and failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway.
Police say the truck traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment, overturning and coming to rest on its roof.

JASD unanimously approves preliminary budget

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District school board unanimously approved a preliminary budget Thursday, a balanced budget that includes the maximum tax increase allowable by the state.
JASD school board treasurer Patty Calkins said during JASD's budget work session meeting May 7 that the tax increase, which will be a 1.9 tax increase, is expected to bring an additional $40,000 into the district, and the tax is expected to cost the average homeowner in the district an additional $21 a year.

Blue Mass to honor fallen police officers

ST. MARYS – In commemorating Peace Officers Memorial Day, a special Blue Mass is being held today at noon at Sacred Heart Church in St. Marys to remember those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives to protect their fellow officers and members of their communities.
Father Eric Vogt will act as celebrant for the Mass, which will be followed by a luncheon.
