JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Area School District continues to look for answers to projected deficits in this school year and the next during a budget workshop held Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Following a month-long fundraiser, the Ridgway Area High-Middle School was able to donate $1,025 to the Ridgway YMCA in support of the organization's recent pool and fitness center renovations.
Coined "Have a heart month," students, faculty and staff at the Ridgway Area High-Middle School teamed up to raise money for women's heart health throughout the month of February, deciding that the YMCA would be an appropriate beneficiary for the cause.
JOHNSONBURG â€“Â With a new code enforcement officer on staff, the Johnsonburg Borough Council is looking into the condemnation process to help fight the borough's blight problem.
At Monday's council meeting, a property at 208 Church St. was briefly discussed as a starting point for the borough's efforts.
"208 Church St. had burned a couple of years ago," said Mary Polaski, Johnsonburg Borough manager. "Maybe it is time to start on that one to find out what we can do and what we can't do."
KANE â€“ A criminal case against a Kane man accused of raping a 7-year-old girl is headed to McKean County Court.
The defendant is Joseph Allen Snyder, 42, of 323 Moffit Ave., Kane.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman "bound over" all charges to McKean County Court following a preliminary hearing Monday at the Kane court on Fraley Street.
The defendant remains in the McKean County Jail near Smethport in lieu of $200,000 cash bail.
ST. MARYS â€“ A St. Marys woman is charged in multiple felony charges related to the sale and distribution of alpha-PVP, the drug commonly known as bath salts.
Chelsea Ann Micale, 27, of 122 Houston Rd., was charged as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General's North Central Municipal Drug Task Force.
Residents from throughout the area were treated to an evening of music and a few good laughs Saturday night as Shenandoah took to the stage at the St. Marys Area High School's Carpin Auditorium along with local band Six Pak and comedian Bubba Bradley, as part of the annual concert presented by St. Marys Auto Body.
The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority met with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection representatives Feb. 19 to discuss options to eliminate disinfection byproducts from the township's water supply.
In 2012, the DEP suggested changes to the township's water system in hopes of eliminating the disinfection byproducts from the system, but after receiving a sampling report from the Ridgway Township Municipal Authority on Dec. 11, 2014, the DEP decided to pursue other options to help address the byproduct issue.

During Thursday's Ridgway Area School District school board workshop meeting, the school board held discussions on future school trips, including a possible senior class trip for next year's seniors.
Amy Goode, a junior class advisor at the Ridgway Area Middle/High School, made a presentation on behalf of the junior class, informing the board about the preliminary plans for next year's senior class trip.
Brandon Michael Weidow, 27, of Byrnedale was sentenced to four to nine years of incarceration in state prison for the 2012 DUI crash that claimed the life of Savannah Straub.
In December 2014, a jury found Weidow guilty of homicide by vehicle while DUI, as well as related offenses, concluding that he was driving the vehicle in which Straub was a passenger.
When given the opportunity to make a statement, Weidow replied, "No thank you, your honor." He also declined the opportunity to offer an apology.
