JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Area School District hired three elementary teachers Thursday night during a special board of education meeting held at the high school library.
Daniele Carnessali was hired as an elementary teacher, masters step 4, at a salary of $44,200, effective the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
Cassie Kriegelwas hired as an elementary teacher, bachelors step 3, at a salary of $42,000, effective the start date of the 2012-2013 school year.
Summer usually signifies lots of picnics, parties and other outdoor events, with most featuring all kinds of delicious food and drinks. To ensure that partygoers will enjoy the feast safely, there are a few important steps people should take when shopping for, preparing, storing and serving their summer dishes.
Rick Kralj, food safety and quality extension educator with Penn State Extension's Brookville office, offered some key pieces of advice for food safety in the summertime:
1. Avoid "time-temperature abuse."
While local officials are trying not to cause a panic with Ridgway residents, the fact remains the same: with two unexplained fires less than three weeks apart being deemed arson cases, the unease has set in.
"The two that we've had in three weeks, we have an issue," said Ridgway fire chief John Wygant. "I don't want to elaborate on it because I don't want to create a problem in the community, and I don't want to cause a panic or have people running, buying guns and shooting people. We can't have that.
JOHNSONBURG - The preliminary hearing in the case against Nancy Jean Bodien, 36, of Ridgway, charged with theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received, a felony of the third degree, was held Wednesday in Magisterial District Court in Johnsonburg, with Judge George "Tony" King presiding.
The charges against Bodien stem from her alleged failure to pay for services rendered in the restoration of her home following an Aug. 17, 2011 fire at the 45 Fremont Ave., Ridgway residence.
Elk County commissioners green-lighted a revised agreement Tuesday for the West Creek outdoor classroom during a Tuesday morning board meeting.
"There is a revised license agreement for the West Creek outdoor classroom and the agreement includes a restroom facility that will be constructed," said Elk County Commissioner Daniel R. Freeburg. "It has to do with the particulars of that."
A decision by the Johnsonburg Borough Council to appoint the St. Marys Ambulance Service as the sole provider of emergency services within the Borough of Johnsonburg has caused the Ridgway Ambulance Corporation to potentially reassess its service areas.
Sean Papa of the Ridgway Ambulance Service attended Tuesday afternoon's Ridgway Township Supervisors meeting to help clarify which areas the Ridgway Ambulance would service.
A new method of pipeline restoration provided by 3M is being considered by the Borough of Ridgway following a motion made by Ridgway Borough Councilman Ralph Dussia to turn the issue over to the Water and Sewer Committee.
ST. MARYS â€“ The second annual Autism Awareness Charity Ball, presented by the Dickinson Center, Inc. Autism Program, was held on Friday at The Red Fern Banquet and Conference Center in St. Marys.
The evening included a performance by Jack Garret and the Swingin' Starz, as well as live and silent auctions.
With roughly $25,000 raised through last year's efforts, this year's goal was set at $50,000, with proceeds to benefit the center's Autism Program.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Area School District honored two teachers for their many years of service at the start of their regular board meeting Thursday night.
"We would like to recognize two of our educators who have served our district well and who have served their profession of teaching very well," said Superintendent Dennis Crotzer. "We would like to recognize them for their years of service, not only to Johnsonburg, but to the fine art of teaching."
A plaque was presented by Crotzer to elementary teacher Elaine Steis who taught in the district for 38 years.
