EMPORIUM â€“ A spike in the number of arrests involving stimulant bath salts continues in the wake of what local law enforcement are calling the drug's dramatic rise in Elk and Cameron Counties.
A jury of 12 primaries and two alternates was selected in Elk County Court Monday to sit on the trial of a Ridgway man incarcerated on drug charges after police allegedly uncovered marijuana being grown on his property.

This production is the 17th annual drama club play under director Ginger Schreiber and assistant Lann Yurchick.
A Johnsonburg man charged with operating what authorities deemed "a sophisticated and significant marijuana grow operationâ€ť from his home, was sentenced in Elk County Court Thursday to serve 12 to 24 months behind bars in Elk County Prison.
Despite Governor Tom Corbett's recent proposal to increase funding to support domestic violence programs by 10 percent, nonprofit organizations like CAPSEA [Citizens Against Physical, Sexual and Emotional Abuse] still struggle to make ends meet.
"At this point in time the Commonwealth is in the dark as to what evidence might be," said Elk County District Attorney Bradley J. Kraus who was in Elk County Court Thursday seeking to compel the discovery of potential expert witnesses and documents to be used in the defense of a Ridgway man headed to trial next month on charges of marijuana manufacturing.
Once again the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Manager Michelle Bogacki are busy preparing for the Fourth Annual Community Wide Yard Sale scheduled for May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.
For the time being, Johnsonburg and Ridgway will maintain their respective baseball teams.
