The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) announced recently that Ernest Mattiuz Jr. of Kersey has been elected to the organization's state board of directors during the bureau's 63rd annual meeting in Hershey.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ During their regular meeting on Monday, the Johnsonburg Borough Council voted to adopt an ordinance regarding engine brakes, or "jake brakes," within the borough limits.
The community and surrounding area is invited to attend the Prelude to Christmas Worship Gathering being held on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ridgway Evangelical Covenant Church along Center Street.
Sunday evening, area residents gathered at the gazebo along Main Street for a candle lighting ceremony in memory of children who have passed away. The ceremony began with a prayer from pastor Don Hunter, followed by the lighting of a large center candle in remembrance of those honored during the ceremony.
HAMLIN TWP. â€“Â A St. Marys man accidentally injured himself on Saturday when a weapon he believed to be unloaded accidentally discharged and struck him in the hip.
Ridgway Borough Council on Friday afternoon voted to advertise their 2014 budget proposal which features no tax hike.
A complete copy of the entire proposed 2014 budget is available for public inspection at the borough office under normal business hours.
The Elk County Historical Society, located along Center Street, hosted participants in the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce's annual Cheer Tour on Friday evening.
According to officials with the Western Pennsylvania Division of the Salvation Army, the division's Red Christmas Kettle Campaign is trailing behind 2012 figures by more than $307,000.
Lieutenant Esther E. Wilson, Corps Officer at the Salvation Army in Ridgway said Wednesday afternoon that collections have been down for Elk County as well as volunteers to stand at the kettles.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ During their reorganization meeting on Thursday evening, the Johnsonburg Area school board swore in two new members as Courtney Dunworth and Sarah Grunthaner joined the board for their first meeting joined by several returning members. Also sworn in Tuesday evening were re-elected members Richard Warmbrodt, Barbara Thorwart, Shane Launer, and David Allegretto.
ST. MARYS â€“ There was visible police activity on Linwood Avenue in St. Marys on Wednesday afternoon. There were at least three St. Marys Police Department vehicles and at least four Ridgway-based State Police vehicles at the site. It was unclear how many officers were at the scene and if any law enforcement officials entered any property. Preliminary reports from PSP Ridgway late Wednesday evening indicated the activity was part of an ongoing investigation and no immediate public information report was filed.
