ST. MARYS â€“ Following a Friday morning preliminary hearing Michael J. Stephanic Jr., 44, of St. Marys, will be held over for trial on charges he allegedly shot and killed June Talmadge, 48, during a Sept. 3 incident in the parking lot of Eastern Sintered Alloys.
The Ridgway Borough council is poised to make several decisions during their next regular meeting scheduled for Monday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at the borough building located along Main Street.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Three Johnsonburg residents are reportedly in prison after allegedly holding up a residence along Harrison Avenue in Johnsonburg.
BROCKPORT â€“ The Horton Township supervisors held their regular meeting on Wednesday evening at the township building located along state Route 219.
Ridgway Area Middle School students will be performing "Wonderland" as their school production this year.
"Wonderland" is a musical adapted from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass by James DeVita with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur.
The play will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. in the middle/high school auditorium.
ST. MARYS â€“ Recent published reports indicate the Elk County Catholic School System is among 14 school districts in the region which have purchased a controversial beef product through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
During their regular meeting Tuesday evening, Dr. Michael O'Brien, superintendent of schools, discussed possible changes to standardized testing in Pennsylvania, particularly concerning the Keystone exams.
QUEHANNA â€“ Kersey resident Ronald Wildfire was the lone Elk County resident drawn for a license in this year's elk hunt, and Wildfire was especially lucky in that he was one of 26 individuals selected for a bull tag. He successfully harvested a 6x6 bull elk in Elk Hunt Zone 5 last Wednesday.
WILCOX â€“Â During their regular meeting Monday evening, Jones Township Supervisors approved the advertising of the 2014 budget, which is reportedly expected to be approved during the December meeting.
ST. MARYS â€“ Just over two years ago Staff Sgt. Michele Labant, 35, a native of St. Marys, was among five wounded and three killed during two IED attacks on the truck convoy which she was traveling in while deployed to Afghanistan.
