Army Corps awaiting proposals for project

WILCOX – Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were at East Branch Lake Park Wednesday morning in order to provide updates for the ongoing East Branch Dam Safety Initiative Project.

Shots fired in Brockway

According to scanner reports from Thursday afternoon, local authorities have responded to an area referred to as Cemetery Hill in Brockway in response to multiple shots being fired.

According to WJAC-TV, "a state police spokesperson in Harrisburg confirmed one state trooper was injured in what was described as an 'ongoing situation' on Cemetery Hill Road."

Scanner reports also stated that area schools were on lockdown.

Please exercise caution in this area.

Greentree Landfill offers tour

Members of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority were given a tour of the Greentree Landfill Tuesday, led by Don Henrichs of Veolia Environmental Services and area manager of the landfill.

North Central eyes federal shutdown possibility

It's been 18 years since the last federal government shutdown but officials at North Central are watching intently, hoping the issue is resolved.
The U.S. House of Representatives approved a short-term continuing resolution to fund federal programs at the current spending level through Dec. 15. Of the resolution's three elements, it continues funding at an annual level of $986.3 billion; second, it includes language to block implementation of the 2010 Affordable Care Act; third, it continues debt payments if the debt ceiling is not raised.

The Elk County Solid Waste Authority has recently been notified of the closing of their current electronics recycling contractor, Eco International. The company plans to close its doors by the end of the year.

Former headmaster leaves 40 percent of estate to ECCHS

ST. MARYS – On Tuesday morning Fr. Philip M. Oriole, executor of the estate of Monsignor John B. Hagerty, was on hand at Elk County Catholic High School to present a check in the amount of $120,000 to be used for tuition assistance and scholarships. While the check represents the bulk of the amount ECC will be receiving from the estate of Hagerty, a former headmaster at the school, Oriole noted that he will be returning later in the year once the estate is completely wrapped up to present an additional check.

Monday evening's Elk County Conservation District Meeting also marked the District's 51-year anniversary. The District, one of 66 throughout Pennsylvania, began its first year in September of 1962.
