North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC] officials were joined Wednesday morning by Paula Fritz Eddy, the executive director of the Elk County Community Foundation [ECCF], for a lengthy discussion regarding rural community development philanthropy.

With deck replacement work complete, PennDOT plans to fully open two Elk County bridges on Friday, Oct. 19. Making the repairs will keep the bridges in service for years to come. Both bridges are located on Route 949 near Portland Mills. The bridges are about 500 feet apart, with one spanning Toby Creek and one spanning the railroad. Traffic has been controlled at the bridges by temporary signals. Once both lanes are opened on the bridges, PennDOT will turn the signals off and remove them.
This year's 4th Annual Turkey Trot will feature an inaugural marathon and half-marathon in addition to the traditional 5K walk and 5K run on Sunday, Nov. 4.
