KERSEY â U.S Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson (R-5) visited St. Marys Friday evening to announce his bid for re-election this year.
Speaking to a group of about 30 constituents at the Red Fern in Fox Township, Thompson said he was honored and privileged to be among friends who feel more like family.
ST. MARYS â A partisan Legislature still appears to stand in the way of state pension reform as ârevenues in the Commonwealth continue to lag behind growing expenses,â one such expense being an âunsustainableâ pension plan, according to Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson).
Rising pension costs are expected to hover around $2 billion for next yearâs budget, up from $1.4 billion for fiscal year 2013.
Representing the 25th District, Scarnati on Thursday morning said it appears the system is broke.

The PHARE fund appears to be gaining its footing as Marcellus Shale regions are seeing yearly allocations for local distribution.
In 2012, the base allocation for PHARE [Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement] was $2.5 million; for 2013 and beyond, the allocation has doubled.
The six-county region under the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission (Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Potter Counties) have seen nearly half a million dollars in allocations in the past two years.
NORWICH TWP. âÂ Corporal Greg Agosti, fire marshal for the Pennsylvania State Police, is investigating an early morning fire which broke out Jan. 22 at 90 White Hollow Rd. in Norwich Township, McKean County.
The fire, which broke out at roughly 7:20 a.m., took the life of a family dog, and displaced Nicole and Brent Leet, along with an 11-year-old female of Smethport.
The cause of the fire in still under investigation and no one was home at the time of the fire. Damage is estimated at approximately $200,000.

ST. MARYS â Longtime Elk County Catholic High School varsity boys basketball coach Aaron Straub entered the 2013-2014 season with 688 wins over the course of over 30 seasons coaching the Crusader program. Now in his 32nd season, he needed just 12 wins to record his 700th varsity boys victory, and he achieved that milestone on Monday evening as the Crusaders defeated the Kane Wolves 66-26 at home at the ECCHS gymnasium.

Sara Sutter from Big Brothers Big Sisters said officials recently received a grant to expand their program but indicated Tuesday morning there are over 20 children on a waiting list for a Big Brother or Big Sister.
