QUEHANNA â€“ Kersey resident Ronald Wildfire was the lone Elk County resident drawn for a license in this year's elk hunt, and Wildfire was especially lucky in that he was one of 26 individuals selected for a bull tag. He successfully harvested a 6x6 bull elk in Elk Hunt Zone 5 last Wednesday.
WILCOX â€“Â During their regular meeting Monday evening, Jones Township Supervisors approved the advertising of the 2014 budget, which is reportedly expected to be approved during the December meeting.
ST. MARYS â€“ Just over two years ago Staff Sgt. Michele Labant, 35, a native of St. Marys, was among five wounded and three killed during two IED attacks on the truck convoy which she was traveling in while deployed to Afghanistan.
The Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Membership Banquet Friday evening at Aiello's Cafe. This year, the chamber honored the Elk County Council on the Arts [ECCOTA], which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this upcoming year.
Three students from Ridgway Area High School got up to read their essays in front of the student body as well as the many veterans who assembled for Ridgway's annual Veterans Day assembly on Thursday.
On Thursday morning, the Ridgway Area Middle/High School held its annual Veterans Day presentation for the middle and high school students. Twenty-eight veterans representing each branch of the military gathered to hear a presentation from Kim Zimmerman, who was active in the United States Army for 24 years and now serves as borough manager for Ridgway.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Three Johnsonburg Area High School students read winning essays as part of the Veterans Day program held Thursday morning at the high school.
KERSEY â€“ In a fitting tribute honoring fallen firefighter Blaine E. "Skeeter" Wildnauer Jr., of Kersey, a solemn procession was held Wednesday morning which included dozens of fire departments from four counties.
Wildnauer, 58, died Saturday morning in the line of duty while responding to a traffic crash on the Old Kersey Road. A lifelong resident of the area, Wildnauer dedicated 40 years of service to the Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department.
SMETHPORT â€“ There were tense moments Wednesday morning after a call to the 911 center reported a bomb had been planted in the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport.
QUEHANNA â€“ Ten elk - four bulls and six cows - were brought to the Pennsylvania Game Commission's elk check station in Quehanna by just after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, raising the total number harvested so far this year to 51.
