ST. MARYS â€“ The Elk County Community Foundation Board of Directors recently approved several grants totaling $22,170 which were distributed to area organizations from the Harrison and Muriel Dauer Stackpole Family Fund. Those receiving grants were the Community Education Council (CEC), Elkland Search and Rescue, the City of St. Marys Police Department and Elk County Catholic High School.
SMETHPORT â€“ A McKean County District Judge has set bail at $200,000 for a Smethport man charged with rape and related offenses in an incident said to have occurred on June 20 in Keating Township.
As the Ridgway Firemen's Carnival grows near, officials are preparing for the yearly event, scheduled for July 15 through July 20.
Leadership Elk County (LEC) officially started its sixth year in September 2012 with 13 participants from Elk County. This program was developed to address the lack of qualified leadership in rural areas, which is a major concern for many rural communities and the future growth of these communities. To date 83 participants have successfully completed the program from businesses, industry, education, the non-profit sector, police departments and local government agencies.

ST. MARYS â€“ Two individuals have been charged with drug offenses after police reportedly interrupted a drug deal at a Washington Street apartment where they found five individuals in a cloud of marijuana smoke emanating from the building's basement.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Travis Long, Engineer of GD&F reported to the Johnsonburg Municipal Authority about the status of the Department of Environmental Protection permits.
