Water lines completed in west end

The west end water main project started in front of the West End Grocery earlier this year.
“Boo” Rendulic with his crew, Tim Estrada, Casey Coffen, Tristan Loper, and Don York from Klinginsmith Enterprises; engineering inspector Larry Bryant from Hill Engineering, Inc.; inspectors representing PennDOT, one of whom was Don Ross; as well as Ridgway Borough and Township crews began replacing the old west end water lines which had recently sustained breakage.

Woodman's Reunion planned for Saturday

ST. MARYS – Loggers and sawmill workers of all ages from throughout the region are invited to attend a Woodman's Reunion taking place Saturday evening at the Sacred Heart Social Center in St. Marys.
Organizers planned the event as a way for loggers from Elk, Cameron, Jefferson, McKean, Potter and surrounding counties to re-live times past and share stories of how logging got its start in rural Pa. From short wooders to the newly mechanized loggers, all are welcome.

DuBois woman charged with drug trafficking

Through information provided through a confidential informant, Ridgway Borough Police charged a DuBois woman with the felony offenses of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or deliver and criminal use of a communication facility.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Cristy Marie Henderson, 29, of DuBois was found to be in possession of heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana and an assortment of pills during a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Ridgway Sheetz at around 2:07 a.m. on Oct. 23.

Recycling program faces uncertain future

The Ridgway Borough recycling program is currently being reviewed by the borough council to determine if the program, which was labeled as being not cost efficient at September's borough council meeting, is something that should be continued for the 2015 year.
During September's borough council meeting, Borough Manager Kim Zimmerman informed the council that 25 percent of borough residents use the program at a cost to the borough of $50,000, which he said is not cost efficient to the borough.

Man injured in Brusselles Street crash

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys City Police Department reported investigating a two-vehicle crash Wednesday at 4:22 p.m. on the 500 block of Brusselles Street in St. Marys.

Supervisors show disagreement on ordinance

The Ridgway Township Supervisors expressed disagreement during Tuesday's monthly supervisors meeting over the progress that is being made towards the enactment of a new zoning ordinance throughout the township.
Ridgway Township supervisors are discussing the creation and implementation of a zoning ordinance related to the oil and gas industry, and disagreements occurred about whether or not the supervisors were acting quickly enough to avoid being sued by residents.

Unemployment figures favor Elk County

Figures released recently show Elk County's unemployment rate lower than any of its counterparts within the North Central region.
Figures accumulated from August 2013 through August 2014 show Elk County with an average of 5.57 percent. The state average for the same time period totals 6.48 percent while the national average is 6.6 percent.

Dunshie waived for county court

October 21, 2014

The driver in a December 2013 crash on Zwack's dip of the Million Dollar Highway was waived for court Tuesday.
James Michael Dunshie, 27, of Force, initially faced two felony charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI. One of the charges was withdrawn. One remains as one of his passengers is still recovering in a care facility.
