"New school" tattoo studio comes to Ridgway

Inferno Studios, a "new school" tattoo shop that is located along Main Street in Ridgway, is set to officially open its doors Saturday, Sept. 13.
On Thursday, the employees of Inferno Studios joined members of the Elk County Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the new Ridgway business with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

JASD school board adds coaches, substitutes

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District's School Board held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday to discuss the addition of multiple athletic coaches and substitutes, as well as to discuss upcoming events by the high school and elementary schools.
The two-hour meeting was held in the Johnsonburg Area High School Library at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The meeting opened with a lengthy public comment period in which several members of the public voiced opinions on several topics, mainly Common Core and the school's lunch system.

5th Annual Car show to benefit Make-A-Wish

ST. MARYS – The Fifth Annual Antique Classic Car & Truck Show will take place on Saturday, Sept. 13 in the Tractor Supply Company parking lot to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
This year's show is being put together by three chairpersons, Leah Leuschel, Tom Kerchinski and Nancy O'Vell.

Horton Twp. Fire Dept. receives grant

BROCKPORT – The Horton Township Fire Department has received a $114,000 grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program through FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency].
The grant announcement was made by Horton Township Fire Department Fire Chief Chad Guaglianone during Wednesday's regular monthly meeting of the Horton Township Supervisors.

Injuries are reported in Highland Twp. accident

RUSSELL CITY – Multiple injuries have been reported in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon at the east intersection of Routes 66 and 948 in Highland Township just east of Russell City.
Ridgway-based State Police investigated the accident, but had not filed a press release as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene at 1:40 p.m. with its rescue truck and eight firefighters. Highland Fire Police also responded, Fire Chief Bill Edinger said.

Rocco as RASD superintendent made official

The Ridgway Area School District held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the elementary school library to address multiple looming issues, including the approval of the contract of the new superintendent, Robert Rocco.
The board approved a motion to approve Rocco as the school district's superintendent for three years, spanning from Sept. 9, 2014 to Sept. 8, 2017. Details of Rocco's contract were not immediately available to The Ridgway Record, but a copy will be provided Thursday, according to administrative assistant Donna Sidelinger.

Couple bound for court on drug charges

ST. MARYS – Leif Eric Moats (known as Eric), 40, of St. Marys, was held for court Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy for the distribution of the drug bath salts.
The charges stem from the drug sting carried out on July 17 in Ridgway and St. Marys that also resulted in the arrests of Tammy Zawatski and Rachel Shrefler, both of Ridgway, Alan George of New York, and Eric's wife Kristin M. (Kronenwetter) Moats.
