JONES TWP. â€“ The Jones Township Supervisors held their regular monthly meeting on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the community building to discuss ongoing projects, which include upgrades at the facility.
The community building recently underwent work to replace the floor in the gymnasium and a water heater in the building, and both projects have since been completed. More work is scheduled for the building in the future.

ST. MARYS â€“ A St. Marys man faces multiple charges in an incident that occurred at a Brusselles Street pizza shop wherein the defendant allegedly attempted to leave drugs, drug paraphernalia and a firearm on the property in an attempt to elude police.
Joseph David Hoffman, 27, of 635 East Joseph Rd., is charged with one felony count of carrying a firearm without a license and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
FOX TWP. â€“ The Fox Township Supervisors unanimously agreed to participate in a partnership with Penn State University to investigate the potential liability associated with a roadside spring which has tested positive for two forms of bacteria.
As part of the agreement, the township would act as a client for Penn State law students who will provide free advice on any potential liability the township could face as a result of the contamination.
The Elk County Conservation District is hosting the 3rd Annual Les Haas Memorial Trail Challenge on Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Laurel Mill Ski Trail.
This trail challenge was started in honor of Les Haas who died unexpectedly on Feb. 24, 2012. He was an avid outdoorsman that served on the board of the Elk County Conservation District for eight years, and also served as a Waterways Conservation Officer with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission for 20 years.

The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority met Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Ridgway Township Building to discuss the open treasurer position within the authority, as well as other matters.
Former treasurer Bill Briggs resigned in June but the authority never voted to accept his resignation until Thursday's meeting. The board approved Briggs' resignation as long as Briggs would write a new resignation letter.
ST. MARYS â€“ In the wake of Tuesday's school shooting prank call, St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Brian Toth proposed an upgrade to the district's notification system.
While Toth praised the efforts of emergency personnel, staff and students, he noted the difficulty in communicating at times and the dissemination of misinformation, specifically through social media.
ST. MARYS â€“ A prominent Pittsburgh doctor is scheduled to speak Monday at the Elk County cancer support group's meeting at the CEC Building along Erie Avenue in St. Marys.
The event is to take place in Room G4 from 7-8:30 p.m.
Ellen Beckjord, Ph.D., MPH, is an assistant professor of psychiatry and clinical and translational science at the University of Pittsburgh. She provides care for people affected by cancer as part of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute's Psycho-Oncology Clinical Service.
