On Monday morning, Liz and Rick Boni, founders of Ridgway's annual Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, gave a presentation on the history of the Rendezvous, from its humble beginnings in 1999 to the internationally-known event it has become in its 15th year.
"Right off the bat it was kind of an international flavor," said Liz Boni of the 1999 gathering.
ST. MARYS â€“ Area emergency responders were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday for a structure fire at 572 S. St. Marys St. in St. Marys.
Elk Company 1 (Crystal Fire Department) and St. Marys Ambulance were dispatched at 9:08 p.m. Elk Company 3 (Fox Township Fire Department) was called out 12 minutes later, and Elk Company 2 (Johnsonburg Fire Department) was dispatched at 9:42 p.m.
Elk Company 4 (Ridgway Fire Department) was later sent out at 10:06 p.m.
The building was engulfed in flames and thick smoke had limited visibility upon arrival.
ST. MARYS â€“ An outpouring of love, gratitude and respect for the Benedictine Sisters of Elk County was evident on Sunday during a special community celebration honoring those who have served at St. Joseph Monastery in St. Marys, the oldest Benedictine monastery in the U.S. which is slated to close after 162 years of service.
A large crowd gathered at Queen of the World Church for a vespers service, program and social. The guests of honor included the remaining 17 sisters serving at the monastery, their family and friends along with sisters visiting from surrounding monasteries.
