Military to benefit from donations

ST. MARYS – Over 100 pairs of socks were collected recently for county military members stationed outside the continental United States and for homeless veterans living at Tomorrow's Hope, a center located in Coalport.

Narcotics investigation in Jefferson County

BROOKVILLE – Three people were arrested Thursday at the conclusion of a lengthy investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine.
The investigation, conducted by Troop C Vice Unit of the Pennsylvania State Police and the Jefferson County Drug Task Force, resulted in the arrests of April Ann Novak, 43, of 9747 Richardsville Rd., Brookville; Dean William Paige, 52, of 32 Robinson St., Black Lick; and Michael Andrew Novak, 22, of 9747 Richardsville Rd., Brookville.

DEP to sponsor agricultural assistance workshops

Melissa Aul, Resource Conservation Technician for the Elk County Conservation District, has helped to organize agricultural workshops for area farm owners. The workshops are sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection through the Chesapeake Bay Implementation Grant.

During their regular meeting Tuesday morning, county commissioners heard from members of the Ridgway Borough Council regarding their recent request to purchase several condemned homes within the borough from the county repository.

Borough council faces new challenges upon reorganization

Ridgway, Pa. – The Ridgway Borough Council held their annual reorganization meeting Monday afternoon and welcomed new members Sam MacDonald and Steve Keener.
The council also elected Ralph Dussia as their new president. Dussia will be replacing Nina Stolburg, who served the council for 20 years and as president for the final four.

Township supervisors reorganize

The Ridgway Township Board of Supervisors held their annual reorganization meeting Monday evening. The board will remain the same with John Gardner as chairman, Rick Glover as vice-chairman, and Milly Bowers as secretary-treasurer. The solicitor will remain Jim DeVittorio, who has served the board of supervisors for over 20 years.

Fire departments hurt by legislation, health law

MacDonald welcomed as new president of ECCSS

A special meet-and-greet was held at Elk County Catholic High School on Sunday evening to welcome newly appointed Elk County Catholic School System (ECCSS) President Sam MacDonald.
MacDonald takes over the role from interim president Mary Agnes Marshall, and is the school system's second president, filling the position vacated by Fr. Michael Ferrick.
