On Monday afternoon, the office of President Judge Richard A. Masson removed a Nativity scene located under the Christmas tree outside the sheriff's office inside the Elk County Courthouse.

Commissioners approve tax hike

The Elk County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday morning voted to adopt their proposed 2014 budget which includes a one-mill increase, the first hike since 2009.

Overcrowding leads to further relocation

Liquid fuels allocation will not be changed

Less than a month after fielding questions regarding liquid fuels funds distribution, county commissioners on Tuesday morning voted in unanimous fashion to keep the current formula as each municipality receives an equal $8,000 share.

Christmas Spectacular Concert set for Sunday

ST. MARYS – St. Marys Area High School's Carpin Auditorium will be filled with sounds of holiday cheer on Sunday afternoon as the Christmas Spectacular Concert by the Nicholas J. Sinibaldi Concert Band and Choir gets underway at 3 p.m. The roughly hour and a half long concert will feature a variety of holiday music and is free to the public. However, donations will be collected at the door and all proceeds this year will benefit the Crystal Fire Department.

Main Street to see two-hour parking limit

Humane Society concerned about (rising) cat population

ST. MARYS – Recently representatives from the Elk County Humane Society addressed the growing problem of feline overpopulation and their proposed efforts to lessen the burden on the shelter and area residents.
Elk County Humane Society President Joe Boylan explained the goal of the society is to provide an adequate place to temporarily house animals until most can be adopted and to educate the community on the benefits associated with spaying and neutering to reduce the magnitude of the situation going forward.

Flying Dove Ranch expands facilities
