April 29th
JONES TWP. – On April 28, at approximately 8:30 pm, state camp lease 13-C-53 on Straight Creek Road, Jones Township, Elk County burned to the ground.
ST. MARYS – Headed into the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference in Hershey in the category of network design, Elk County Catholic High School sophomores Joe Tamburlin and Matt Feldbauer found themselves up against some tough competition. Many of their main competitors were seniors, and some had even previously taken network design courses, which are not offered at ECC. Despite the disadvantages they faced, the Crusader duo was able to use their "good business attitude" during their presentation to earn a fourth-place finish in the competition.

April 28th
Matt Lipsey was the overall winner of the 5-mile run Saturday during the 31st annual Ridgway Triathlon. Lipsey finished the trek in 29 minutes and 25 seconds.
ST. MARYS – A large number of county residents stopped by Elk Regional Medical Center on Saturday, not for treatment, but to drop off unwanted medications at the Unwanted Household Medicines Collection held in the Education Center from 8 a.m. to noon.
April 26th
ST. MARYS – Police, with guns drawn, surrounded a home in downtown St. Marys Friday in what became a brief, yet tense standoff with an armed suspect holed up inside.
ST. MARYS – April 21-27 may have been National Volunteer Week this year, but volunteering is something that individuals can do any time of year and the efforts of those willing to donate their time is generally greatly appreciated by organizations in need.

JOHNSONBURG – Search warrants issued in the investigation into the murder of a Ridgway teen reveal key insights into what evidence police were looking for, and what they found, as they worked to tie their primary suspect, her 22-year-old boyfriend, to the killing.
The Elk County Board of Commissioners announced today that the Elk County Jail successfully crossed the finish line in EPA’s 2012 ENERGY STAR National Building Competition: Battle of the Buildings. In its third year, the competition featured teams from across the country racing to improve energy efficiency, lower utility costs and protect health and the environment. Together, competitors cut their energy costs by more than $50 million.
EMPORIUM – A New York state man is charged in Cameron County Court with sexually assaulting a child while he resided in Emporium between 2007 and 2008.
