February 25th
Following a decision by the Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] to institute general permit fees for stream and wetland projects, the Elk County Conservation District approved a motion to waive fees for reviewing the permit.
ST. MARYS – A rumor that the St. Marys Area Ambulance Service will be merging with Cameron County Ambulance is not true, according to officials; however, St. Marys employees will assist Cameron County with coverage.
February 24th
The 14th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous wrapped up Saturday with a large auction which started at noon and featured 200 pieces, each sculpture donated by a different carver. Visitors crowded around the Udarbe Business Towers where carvings were arranged along the street for all to view.
JOHNSONBURG – Residents in Johnsonburg will not likely see a rate increase on their fire insurance.

JOHNSONBURG – The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, Johnsonburg Borough Police Department and Johnsonburg Fire Department report investigating the origin and cause of a fire that occurred at 11:50 a.m. Friday at 503 Penn St. in the Borough of Johnsonburg.
The majority of deaths investigated by the county coroner's office in 2012 were attributed to natural causes, according to Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio.Â
The Community Nurses, Inc., an affiliate of Elk Regional Health Systems, is hoping to inspire discussion and consideration of the issues surrounding end-of-life care options with the screening of a documentary film on the topic at 7 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 24 at St. Leo's Social Hall in Ridgway. Another screening will be held Wednesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Education Center at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys.
February 21st
On Friday, carving will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all locations. Sponsor booths will continue to offer merchandise at the Udarbe Business Towers [Masonic Temple]. In addition, there will be horse-drawn carriage rides offered starting at the Ridgway Welcome Center from 1-3 p.m. (weather permitting, donation). At 8 p.m., there will be a pyrotechnic display in the field behind the Lazy River Canoe along the Clarion River.
As a tribute to members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Steve Gore of 3D Custom Carving out of Toledo, Ohio created a unique sculpture which has garnered national attention while raising funds for military veterans as well as civilian families.
ST. MARYS – A St. Marys man has been charged with more than 300 counts of child pornography and related offenses after he allegedly shared illicit computer files online with members of the Pennsylvania State Police Computer Crimes Unit.
