SMETHPORT â€“ A Mt. Jewett couple have entered "no contest" pleas to charges linked with the alleged withholding of food from three adoptive children as a form of punishment.
ST. MARYS â€“ The annual Coaches vs. Cancer campaign was held on Friday during the EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament at St. Marys Area High School and, though the event was only held one day this year, $700 was raised to benefit the American Cancer Society.
ST. MARYS â€“ Johnsonburg boys basketball claimed the 2013 Elk County Holiday Tournament with a 64-43 win over Elk County Catholic Friday night. The Rams are now scheduled to play Bridgeport for the EQT Energy Classic championship at 8 p.m. tonight at St. Marys Area High School.

On Dec. 26, the Ridgway YMCA officially received a letter stating that Governor Tom Corbett has authorized the release of $800,000 in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) funding to the Ridgway YMCA Revitalization Project in Elk County.
"This has been a long time coming," said Ridgway YMCA Executive Director Mary Lynne Bellotti. "I donâ€™t think that it has actually sunk in yet. I am so excited for our YMCA and our community."
The Ridgway Borough Council adopted their 2014 budget during a special meeting held Monday afternoon.
The adopted budget, which was advertised following a November meeting, will see no tax increase for Ridgway Borough residents.
The Christmas Day Happening event will again be celebrated on Christmas day at 12 p.m. at Central Fire Station along North Broad Street in Ridgway.

JOHNSONBURG â€“ On Friday morning accused murderer Nicholas Martin of Johnsonburg, charged in the killing of his 18-year-old girlfriend Alyssa Forsyth of Ridgway, appeared in front of Elk County President Judge Richard Masson as part of a pre-trial hearing.
