November 22nd
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Municipal Authority discussed reducing the Johnsonburg Volunteer Fire Department's hydrant rental fees during Tuesday night's regular meeting.
The board agreed to form a three-man committee comprised of Dane Condino, Doug Haupright and Ed Gapinski in an effort to meet and discuss reducing the hydrant rates by 50 percent with members of the Johnsonburg Borough Council.
JOHNSONBURG – A Highland Township supervisor and sewage treatment plant operator for the James City Sewage Treatment Plant waived his preliminary hearing in District Court 59-3-02 Wednesday on charges that he violated environmental laws in allegedly falsifying environmental reports and discharging some 10 million gallons of raw sewage from the treatment plant into a nearby stream.
The Ruffed Grouse Society seeks volunteers to hand plant gray dogwood along a stream to improve habitat for grouse, woodcock, and songbirds.
“Grouse eat the berries of gray dogwood,” said Mary Hosmer, volunteer for the Ruffed Grouse Society. “Woodcock like to nest underneath dogwood shrubs, and some songbirds such as the chestnut-sided warbler build nests in small shrubs such as gray dogwood.”
The Children and Youth Services in Elk County recently received a $6,000 grant from the Women Who Care, an affiliate of the Elk County Community Foundation to support the community’s children with beds and bed linens.

ST. MARYS - A Byrnedale man, the alleged driver in a violent crash on SR 255 in Byrnedale that left 23-year-old Savannah O. Straub dead, was in District Court Tuesday for his preliminary hearing on charges including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.
Taxpayers employed within Ridgway Township will pay a local service tax [LST] following the adoption of an ordinance during Tuesday afternoon's board of supervisors meeting.
The body of Michael Snyder was recovered from the Kinzua Dam Tuesday, Nov. 20 at approximately 5 p.m. in the same area where the body of his wife was recovered on Nov. 11. The couple had drowned in a boating accident.
