November 26th
A special ceremony was held in the Elk County Courhouse Courtroom Wednesday to swear in attorney Bethany Parker to the bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Elk County President Judge Richard A. Masson, district attorney Bradley Kraus, Parker's family members and friends, and other members of the bar were on hand to witness Parker's admission.
As part of the Yuletide Memories Weekend in downtown Ridgway, the Ridgway Heritage Council is sponsoring a church and house tour.
The guided tour, "The Art of Grace in Light - The Story of Stained Glass," will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 from noon to 2 p.m.
The walking tour will feature historic homes along Center Street and many of the churches in town.
Elk County is now home to one of two drilling rigs converted from diesel to cleaner-burning liquified natural gas by Seneca Resources Corporation for use in its Marcellus Shale operations here.
According to a press release from the National Fuel Gas Company, for which Seneca functions as an exploration and production subsidiary, the first rig powered by 100 percent liquified natural gas (LNG) was converted and integrated into Seneca operations in Lycoming County. The company is reportedly proceeding with plans to put a third rig built to run on both diesel and natural gas into use.

A photo captured by Hannah Jo Lampman, 19, of Lake City featuring four area ballet dancers reading three local newspapers has been chosen as a finalist in a nationwide photo contest.
The 2013 Elk County Relay for Life will begin on a Saturday instead of a Friday this year to give more area residents an opportunity to participate.
According to Public Relations Chair Barbie Simbeck, the Relay for Life Committee and teams voted to have the event begin on Saturday, June 8 at 9 a.m. and end on Sunday, June 9 at 9 a.m. The event will still be held at the Fox Township Community Park.
PITTSBURGH – The creation of a new court program geared toward offering support services to military veterans charged with and convicted of criminal offenses was announced recently for Western Pennsylvania as part of an initiative being led by the region's U.S. District Court.
JOHNSONBURG – Operation Christmas Child is a program that supports needy children around the world.
The program is conducted by Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse which is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to people around the world. Samaritan’s Purse consistently helps to meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine.
Johnsonburg area churches helped to create and collect shoe boxes to support Samaritan’s Purse.

Area residents came out Friday night to celebrate Ridgway's Light Up Night celebration. Area youth got to sit on Santa's lap during the evening.
Various community organizations recently collaborated in a toy challenge to collect Christmas presents for Project Gifts for Elk County.
November 22nd
JOHNSONBURG – A Johnsonburg man, the target of a Sept. 26 federal search warrant served by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and members of the Pennsylvania State Police, waived his preliminary hearing on drug charges stemming from the search and seizure in District Court 59-3-02 on Wednesday.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the search and seizure conducted at the 112 East Ave., Johnsonburg home of David A. Blashaw, 55, yielded “a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.”
