Elk County Commissioners on Tuesday approved changes to Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) documentation during a board meeting.
The changes are from contracts dating back to fiscal year 2009.
According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated one in 88 children in the U.S. is currently living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), marking a 23 percent increase since the last report was issued in 2009. The findings were released March 29, just days before Autism Awareness Month, a national observance since the 1970s, began in April.
The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority discussed water accountability concerns during their regular meeting Wednesday night.
Works Superintendent Carl Gosnell reported locating two water leaks in the service lines in the Boot Jack area.
"One was repaired by the customer as it was on their service line and the second was repaired by the Municipal Authority since it was between the main and the curb box," Gosnell said. "We are pretty confident the combination of those two leaks will take care of the unaccountable water we have had in the last couple months."

At Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, Elk County Recycling/ Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner said the county would be pursuing a recycling program (902) grant from the state.
"For the first time in about three years, there is going to be a recycling program equipment grant, but it's a lot more substantial than the last one we applied for," said Titchner, explaining that this round of grants requires a great deal more of information to be submitted to the state. "There's a lot more information they are requesting."

An area mother pleaded guilty in court Monday to stealing the identity of her own child, a minor, in order to open accounts with credit card, satellite television, and a variety of other companies and service providers.
Racheal Susan Weisner, 38, of Reynoldsville, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of identity theft during return day proceedings Monday at the Elk County Courthouse.

FOX TWP. – At the 4th Annual Heritage Gala on Friday evening, the Benedictine Sisters of St. Joseph Monastery were presented with the Heritage Award for the many roles they have played in seeing to the spiritual, educational and other needs of the St. Marys community.
FOX TWP. – On Friday evening at The Red Fern in Fox Twp., the Benedictine Sisters of St. Joseph Monastery were honored with the Heritage Award from the Elk County Catholic School System for their many contributions to the community over the years.
The Heritage Award is given annually to individuals, living or deceased, who have made a significant impact on Catholic education in St. Marys. At the Heritage Gala Friday evening, guests were treated to a slide show that told of the history of the sisters and their many contributions over the years.

ST. MARYS – Parent company THR & Associates is bringing the International Coin Collectors Association to St. Marys in order to purchase coins, paper currency, gold and silver from area residents for their global network of collectors, dealers and refineries.
The free event is open to the public and will be held at the Comfort Inn, 195 Comfort Lane, St. Marys, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, April 2 through Friday, April 6.
Women and Infant Care (WIC), a program offered through the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission, continues to thrive.
"Our breastfeeding education component of WIC continues to strengthen," said Julie Kasmierski, WIC director. "Our breastfeeding peer counseling contacts are at an all-time high. During the month of January, our breastfeeding peer counselors had 284 contacts with pregnant and/or breastfeeding mothers."
The figure climbed to 323 contacts in February.
