In the past five years, The Ridgway Record and The Kane Republican Editor Joseph Bell has acclimated himself to the community by covering everything from news to sports, and throughout those experiences has formed relationships with a wide variety of individuals and organizations. These bonds led Bell to pen numerous commentaries, three of which were recently recognized as Keystone Press Award winners from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association (PNA).
The Ridgway Area School District Board of Directors held a reorganizational meeting to appoint officers prior to their regular meeting Monday night.
Lisa Connelly was unanimously reelected as board president.
Board member William Seely nominated Dave Parsons as president but was declined by Parsons.
Gloria Almquist-Shull was reappointed as vice president.
ST. MARYS – A 25-year-old St. Marys man charged with setting fire to his father's and stepmother's home was in Elk County Court Monday, where he entered a plea of guilty to crimes of arson.
A St. Marys man charged with running over his wife with a pickup truck during the escalation of a verbal dispute was in Elk County Court Monday, where he entered a plea of guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.

COUDERSPORT – Gunfire erupted during service at a Coudersport church Sunday, morning leaving one dead and the alleged shooter in police custody.
According to reports from the Coudersport-based Pennsylvania State Police, at around 11:22 a.m. on Sunday morning the alleged shooter, 52-year-old Coudersport resident Greg Eldred, walked into the First United Presbyterian Church at Main and Fourth streets in Coudersport before reportedly firing shots and killing 53-year-old Darlene J. Sitler of Coudersport.
ST. MARYS – The Elk County County Concert Choir delighted a packed house at Sacred Heart Church in St. Marys on Saturday evening with its special Christmas program, "It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas."
This was the second performance by the choir; the first was held on Nov. 27 at St. Leo Magnus Church in Ridgway. Refreshments and a social followed Saturday's performance.
Dickinson Center, Inc. [DCI] is in need of sponsors to participate in the 4th annual Pat Work Memorial Christmas Project.
Last year, 221 children from Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter counties received gifts and clothing as part of the Christmas Project. This year DCI is hoping to fulfill the wishes of 180 children, but has 35 remaining children to be selected from the Angel Giving Tree.
The project was named after Patricia "Pat" Work, a therapist at Dickinson for many years prior to her passing in 2003.

ST. MARYS – The Bucktail Council, Boy Scouts of America covers an area including Elk, Cameron, Jefferson and Clearfield counties, and the western portion of Centre County, and consists of 2,300 scouts and nearly 1,000 leaders, according to scout executive Greg Bennett.
The Bucktail Council is one of the organizations that receives funding from the St. Marys Area United Way. Bennett explained that this funding is indispensable to the organization, as it makes up between eight and nine percent of the Bucktail Chapter's $650,000 to $700,000 annual budget.
ST. MARYS - Area residents seeking some Christmas spirit and holiday cheer need look no further than the Queen of the World Church on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m., when area musicians will gather for this year's Nicholas J. Sinibaldi Concert Band Christmas Spectacular Concert. This year's concert band is under the direction of director Chris Gankosky.
ST. MARYS – Elk Regional Health Center has been busy fundraising to support their patients, especially those who use their Women’s Imaging Center. Elk Regional was recently a part of the “Bras for Cause” at the Elk Mountain Winery, participated in the Bavarian Fall Fest and held a 5K run/walk and a four hour Zumba fitness party.
