Seven Elk County residents and one individual with local ties, all charged with offenses relating to the operation of a Jefferson County-based drug trafficking ring, waived their preliminary hearings in District Judge Mark Jacob's courtroom on Tuesday.
Watershed specialist Kim Bonfardine of the Elk County Conservation District updated officials on the status of the Elk County Monitoring Project during Monday night's regular meeting.
"Much time was spent this summer getting systems up and running and projecting data to the internet," Bonfardine said.
The monitoring project is designed to keep track of stream conditions in the wake of the Marcellus Shale drilling activity by measuring the temperature, flow and conductivity in each stream.
According to Bonfardine, seven of the 11 satellite telemetry systems are online and running.
At Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, discussion on how to provide a document-shredding event for the public continued.
