August 30th
New charges, including multiple drug offenses and illegal possession of firearms, have been filed against Francis Anthony Milliard, 54, of Ridgway, currently incarcerated on arson and related charges in connection with two residential fires in Elk County, as well as charges of attempted murder and assault stemming from Milliard's alleged beating of a Ridgway man.
WILCOX – Bailey Pretak and friends will present “Release the Butterfly”, a concert to benefit the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Johnsonburg Area High School Auditorium.Â
The concert is free of charge, but a free-will offering will be taken and all proceeds go to the F.I.R.S.T. foundation to fund research and publicity. This weekend’s concert will feature inspirational music by dancers and singers who will tell a story of those who have Ichthyosis.

The preliminary hearing for Francis Anthony Milliard, 54, of Ridgway, charged in connection with two area arsons as well as the attempted murder of a Ridgway man, resulted in those charges being upheld by District Judge George A. "Tony" King in Elk County Court on Wednesday.
An overturned tanker truck hauling butane has overturned in a Kane, PA where residents within a half-mile radius of the accident are being evacuated Wednesday morning.
August 28th
Seven Elk County residents and one individual with local ties, all charged with offenses relating to the operation of a Jefferson County-based drug trafficking ring, waived their preliminary hearings in District Judge Mark Jacob's courtroom on Tuesday.
Watershed specialist Kim Bonfardine of the Elk County Conservation District updated officials on the status of the Elk County Monitoring Project during Monday night's regular meeting.
"Much time was spent this summer getting systems up and running and projecting data to the internet," Bonfardine said.
The monitoring project is designed to keep track of stream conditions in the wake of the Marcellus Shale drilling activity by measuring the temperature, flow and conductivity in each stream.
According to Bonfardine, seven of the 11 satellite telemetry systems are online and running.
At Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, discussion on how to provide a document-shredding event for the public continued.
August 27th
BROOKVILLE – New charges have been filed against Francis Anthony Milliard, 54, of Ridgway, in connection with his alleged orchestration of drug sales from Jefferson County Jail, where he is currently incarcerated after being charged with two Elk County arsons and attempted murder in the beating of a Ridgway man.
Milliard was imprisoned on July 24 after being officially charged in arsons committed in Johnsonburg and Ridgway in 2008 and 2012, respectively, as well as attempted homicide and related charges in the June 23, 2011 beating of Todd "TJ" Asti, 44, of Ridgway.
The Elk County Conservation District [ECCD] will advertise for a new technician position following an approval from the Elk County Commissioners to provide half of the funding.
ECCD Manager Steve Putt and chairman Russ Braun reported meeting with the commissioners to discuss funding possibilities for a resource conservation technician.
August 26th
JOHNSONBURG – A small fire reportedly originated in the basement of an unoccupied house along Main Street in Johnsonburg early Saturday morning. The fire has been ruled an arson, at least the ninth such case reported in Elk County since May 30.
Fire departments were called at 1:52 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 25 at 236 Main St. in Johnsonburg. The fire damaged the abandoned residential structure and State Police Fire Marshal Greg Agosti ruled the blaze to be arson.
Damage was reportedly minimal although a dollar estimate is not available at this time. There were no injuries reported.
