The 31st Annual Ridgway Triathlon will commence Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
The race will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Elk County Courthouse on Main Street in downtown Ridgway. From there, runners will head down to the Clarion/Little Toby Trail for a 5-mile run. Bikers then will then make a 15-mile round trip on Portland Mills Road (state Route 949) before riding a canoe or kayak from Country Squirrel Outfitters to the finish line at the Portland Mills canoe launch.
Regardless of the random snow earlier this week, motorcycle riders have been taking advantage of the early spring and mild weather to rev up and head on down the road.
Back in February, Governor Tom Corbett unveiled a $27.1 billion state budget proposal that held the line on taxes while making deep cuts in higher education assistance.
The spending plan is reportedly only a 1-percent decrease from last year's budget; however, Corbett's initial plan calls for cuts of over $300 million from 14 state-owned universities and a small reduction in funding for public schools.
According to David Mitchell, the current director of Corbett's northwest regional office out of Erie, the proposed budget continues to be the hot topic in Harrisburg.

WILCOX – During a recent East Branch Dam Safety Initiative meeting, residents and various agency personnel were notified about new updates to the project.
"We're considering for this project a community information system. We've done this at some of our other projects. It will be voluntary and will be a 9-1-1 type number, although it is not an emergency line," said Mike Rattay, project manager.
The system consists of an automated calling list which will contact people in the evening to announce public meetings, construction activities, road closures, and other events.
