Fugitive returned to Elk County

A fugitive who walked out on his work release approximately 11 months ago has been apprehended in Hartwell, Ga.
According to Elk County Prison Warden Gregory J. Gebauer, William Umstead, who previously was employed as a laborer for a company in Bradford, has been on the loose for nearly a year.
Umstead, serving a 90-day sentence for domestic relations [failure to pay child support], was granted work release but failed to report back to Elk County Prison following his shift nearly a year ago.

Roadway project continues on Route 120

The Elk County road improvement project on state Route 120 that began last year and resumed in April is expected to be completed by September.
The work zone on SR 120 stretches east for four miles from Ridgway toward St. Marys.
"Work includes concrete patching, concrete resurfacing, curbing and ramps, manhole adjustments, drainage and guide rail updates," said Marlaine Fannin, PennDOT community relations director.
Crews have begun moving equipment and materials and are working on drainage upgrades, tree trimming, the guide rail replacements and paving.
