Warm weather deters blood donors

July 16, 2011

The Central Fire Station along North Broad Street in downtown Ridgway hosted a blood drive for the N.Y.-Penn region American Red Cross stationed out out of Buffalo, N.Y.
According to Red Cross supervisor Pat Schwarzmueller, the warm weather may have deterred donors.
"We were six percent lower than this time last year," Schwarzmueller said. "It has really pushed us this year and because it has been so warm it declines even more, since people are either staying home in air conditioning or are on vacation. So we see less and less."
