Christmas play kicks off tonight

Curtains will open at 7 p.m. tonight and Friday for the St. Leo Catholic School students' performance of “Touch of An Angel” in the brand new Social Hall.
Third-grade teacher and director Joey Kepple said the students are getting very excited for the big night and have been working hard.
“They pulled it together better [Wednesday] than I expected them to,” Kepple said. “They are right on target every year. I always fret and think this is going to be the year that this is going to flop, but I think not now.”

Horton Township adopts budget; No tax increase

BROCKPORT – Residents in Horton Township will not see an increase in taxes after the board of supervisors adopted the 2012 budget during their regular meeting Wednesday night.
Supervisors unanimously approved a budget of $286,435 that will keep taxes the same.
A budget meeting was held Nov. 23.
In other business, officials are looking to address FEMA's [Federal Emergency Management Agency] Plan B floodplain ordinance.
Supervisor Dennis Thompson said he attended a meeting in Fox Township to meet with other municipalities to discuss the ordinance.

Charges filed regarding Gardner Hill Church incident

WEEDVILLE – On the morning of Oct. 26, it was discovered that the Gardner Hill Community Church had been vandalized overnight. During that incident, a table and stereo were taken and a dead deer was left inside the church. The incident was subsequently investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and Pennsylvania Game Commission and charges were filed against five individuals through District Judge Wilhelm's office on Dec. 12.

Gabler, Kearney discuss 'turf battles' of voucher debate

An email and text message alert sent out by the St. Marys Area School District (SMASD) through its automated emergency text/email notification system informing recipients of the "attempt to pass voucher charter school expansion legislation next week" and instructing them to contact their legislators and "tell them to vote no on vouchers" has come under fire for what some perceive as misuse of a public address system intended for emergency purposes only.
