November 8th
The Ridgway Area School District's Board of Directors approved a four-year administrative compensation plan during Tuesday night's meeting.
The new contract will increase the administration's salaries by six percent over four years, beginning July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2016.
Raises will increase by a half percent the first year. The second and third year will each increase by two percent and the final year of the contract will increase by one and a half percent.
This year’s November and December performances by the Elk County Concert Choir will be showcasing a unique take on traditional Christmas carols.
Along with the expertise of Principal Director Gloria Almquist-Shull, fellow choir members Lois Sadley, Co-Director, and Rita Ordiway, Accompanist, strategically selected the "Tapestry of Light: a Celtic Christmas Celebration "for their upcoming Christmas season showings.
November 7th
ST. MARYS – The Elk-Cameron Board of Realtors recently gifted the Bodien family of Ridgway with various household goods to replace items destroyed in an Aug. 13 house fire at their Fremont Avenue home.
Two brothers charged in a string of camp burglaries that stretched across Elk, Cameron, and McKean counties were seen in a pre-trial conference Monday before Judge Richard Masson at the Elk County Courthouse.
Daniel Anthony Aiello, 26, of Johnsonburg, and Mark Paul Kimes Aiello, 19, of Hazelhurst, are being charged with 132 counts of burglary and 32 counts of criminal mischief each.
November 6th
JOHNSONBURG – Bill Warmbrodt of Johnsonburg has been practicing photography since he was a kid.
Warmbrodt says his hobby began when his grandmother passed and he inherited her photographs.
“I always remember my grandmother carrying around an old two-lens camera,†said Warmbrodt. “Her and her sisters would travel all over the state and to New York. And when she passed I inherited all of her photographs.â€
Since then, Warmbrodt has been involved in photography. Warmbrodt is a self-taught photographer and has learned along the way. He says he loves every aspect of photography.
ST. MARYS – Due to popular demand from area residents, Elk Regional Health System’s “Keepsake Program†is offering angel Christmas tree ornaments for purchase by area residents.
Through the program, several ornaments at different price points are offered for purchase in memory of a loved one. The ornaments are displayed on trees in the lobbies of Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) and Pinecrest Manor and may be taken home afterward.
November 4th
Due to favorable weather, the Christmas decorations will go up along Main Street this weekend.
According to Main Street manager Michelle Bogacki, the Elco Electric Company located along Montmorenci Road had planned to do the installation of the Christmas wreaths and lights on the weekend of Nov. 18.
November 3rd
In an effort to expand their outdoor offerings to women, TomBob Outdoors LLC of Ridgway has recently introduced scented earrings constructed from their patented metal fishing lures.
The TomBob Fishing Lure Earring Collection features a controlled-release Scent Fusion Metal, the trademarked creation from Continuous Metal Technology (CMT) of Ridgway, the parent company of TomBob. Available scents include pina colada, mandarin cranberry, baker's vanilla and cotton blossom.
The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority approved the township's fiscal year audit during Thursday night's regular meeting.
Treasurer Jeff Schutz reported a clean audit.
ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Recreation Board honored Denny Posteraro, recently retired recreation director, for 46 years of service to the city's recreation program during their meeting on Wednesday evening at St. Marys City Hall.
Devin Brock, rec board member, presented Posteraro with a citation from the city, as well as a plaque from the recreation board. Rec board members also had cake and ice cream in honor of Posteraro, and had a number of scrapbooks on display that he made over the years to showcase the coverage of park activities.
