Students, faculty, government officials, friends and veterans got to see a different side of Dr. Michael O'Brien, Ridgway's first-year superintendent, Thursday morning during a Veterans Day ceremony.
O'Brien, a veteran of the United States Air Force, was humbled by the chance to speak Thursday as he spoke of the importance of being a veteran and just how exclusive that club is.
The Veterans Day exhibit's grand opening is today, with the showcase running through Dec. 2 at the Elk County Historical Society's Robinson Museum along Center Street in Ridgway.
For Mary Kalinowski, executive director of the Elk County Historical Society, the exhibit was a way to recognize the area's veterans and display local memorabilia.
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District held a special assembly Thursday morning in the high school auditorium to recognize their veterans.
"We gather to honor our veterans who served our country each and every day," said superintendent Dennis Crotzer. "I acknowledge their willingness to serve so we can enjoy freedom. The sacrifices they have made in their service is greatly appreciated."
The special guests were recognized following the Pledge of Allegiance and playing of the National Anthem by the high school band.
