ST. MARYS â€“ The lively antics of a green ogre, his donkey companion, a feisty princess and a host of other fairy tale characters is being brought to the stage of Elk County Catholic High School in "Shrek the Musical."
SMETHPORT â€“ A Ludlow man has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of growing marijuana at his residence at 33 Mackann Ln.
Freda M. Frank Dunworth, 96, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, formerly of 329 Mill St., Johnsonburg, died Thursday morning, Nov. 21, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 28, 1917 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late William and Mattie Falkenberg Frank.
She married Harold Dunworth on May 8, 1935 in Mayville, N.Y. He died April 6, 1976.
Despite the recent passage by Pennsylvania House and Senate leaders of a major transportation spending proposal for the state, in the immediate aftermath local planning officials are still feeling the squeeze.
The students of Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School will be performing "Fiddler on the Roof Jr." this Friday and Saturday evening at the Ridgway Area High School Auditorium. The show is set to begin at 7 p.m. both nights.
At the recent Ridgway Borough Council meeting, several citizens came in order to voice their concerns about drug use in the area. Those in attendance reported seeing increased drug activity and expressed their concern, particularly for children in their respective neighborhoods.
Pauline M. â€śPollyâ€ť Fox, 67, of 802 Washington St., St. Marys, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at her home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1946 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Paul and Margie Wicks Herzing.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Elk County Christian High School. She was a former employee of Quality Components.
On July 12, 1969, in St. Leoâ€™s Church, she married Dennis T. â€śDennyâ€ť Fox, who preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 2009.
Mrs. Fox was a member of the St. Maryâ€™s Church. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, and her dog, Marley.
Gloria Katherine Donovan, 87, of St. Marys, formerly of Ridgway and Smethport, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 in Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.Â
She was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Shamokin, a daughter of Elvin W. and B. Katherine Wilson Long.Â On June 20, 1947, in Williamsport, she married James Edward Donovan who died Aug. 17, 1998.
Mrs. Donovan was a graduate of Williamsport High School and attended Lock Haven State Teacherâ€™s College. She was employed as the food services director at the Ridgway High School for 20 years, retiring in 1988.
The Elk County Community Foundation awarded $18,000 in grants to several area non-profit organizations Tuesday evening at the Grace Episcopal Church in Ridgway.
Monies came from the foundation's Borough of Ridgway Charitable Fund, just one of 106 different funds controlled by the Community Foundation. The Charitable Fund was a gift received from the estate of Sara Jane Stackpole.
The Elk County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday morning announced that their proposed budget will be unveiled during a special meeting next week.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25 in Conference Room No. 2 at the Elk County Courthouse Annex.
