Highway project slated for late October finish

ST. MARYS – The completion date for the state Route 255 project is slated for Oct. 31 according to PennDOT representatives who spoke during St. Marys City Council's Monday evening workshop.
Additionally State Street is expected to re-open on July 18 as part of the SR 120 portion of the project which was scheduled to be closed for four weeks. On Thursday crews will be paving the area.

KERSEY – The Fox Township Community park is set to kickstart its summer of musical entertainment Thursday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m. with a performance by the Elk-Cameron Community Band.
The group has been together for roughly a dozen years and features several different genres including marches, overtures, pop music, classics and movie themes.

Eagles hosting flood relief fundraiser

The Ridgway Eagles will be putting on a third fundraising event with proceeds going to aid in the relief of Ridgway residents affected by May 21's devastating flood.
The event, scheduled for Friday, July 11 will feature music by Erie-based band Sean Patrick and the Newgrass Revolution, who made their way up the ranks as finalists in the 2013 Rock Erie Awards.

Milliard pleads guilty to firearms charges

Francis Anthony Millard, 56, of Ridgway, pleaded guilty Monday afternoon in federal court to charges of conspiracy to possess firearms by a convicted felon.

Department hosting Recovery 2014 at carnival

The Ridgway Fire Department is hoping community members will use this year's carnival as a celebration of sorts as the area continues to recover from the May 21 flood that ravaged the town, particularly the borough of Ridgway.
"We've all had it rough with the flooding that we experienced," said firefighter Frank Quattrone. "At a directors meeting we mentioned that with the pool being held up a few weeks, the flood, and the YMCA going through their renovations, we really want to make this year's carnival nice for our community and county. We're hoping everything goes well."

Martha J. Moore

Martha J. Moore, 89, formerly of Johnsonburg and Kane, died Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014 at Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility in Ridgway.
Born Oct. 15, 1924 in Fairmont, W. Va., she was the daughter of Joseph and Vergie Cross Young. On Nov. 12, 1942 in Belington, W. Va., she married Dale E. Moore, who died in 1976.
Martha had been a clerk at the former Market Basket, then drove school bus, both in Johnsonburg.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness near Kane.

JOHNSONBURG – The Elk County Minor League baseball All-Stars continue on in the District 10 Little League tournament after a 16-3 victory over St. Marys in four innings Saturday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.

Clara B. Leary

Clara B. Leary, 90, formerly of 501 Smith St., Ridgway, died Friday evening, July 4, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 27, 1924 in Kane, daughter of the late Earl and Iva (Bradybaugh) Young. On Nov. 24, 1945, she married Gerald M. Leary who preceded her in death June 19, 1992.
Clara resided in Ridgway for most of her life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Kane High School. She had been employed by Gorman's for five years as a clerk.

Judith A. Carnesali

Judith A. Carnesali, 75, of 185 Center St., Elk Towers, and a former resident of Ridgway, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness.
She was born July 21, 1938 in Kersey, daughter of the late Antonio and Julia Gornati Cesa.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1956. Judy was a retired nurse having worked at the former Elk County General Hospital in Ridgway for 20 years and had also worked at Girton’s Flower Shop in Ridgway for many years.
