Plans to shut down Main Street for the Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous were quickly stifled by PennDOT officials as borough council and event organizers struggle to settle on an agreeable locale.
After the initial plans for Main Street were halted, talks of returning the event to the Ridgway Firemen's Carnival Lot along North Broad Street were shot down as borough officials have reportedly been entertaining thoughts of holding the event on Court and Center Streets in down Ridgway.
After the New Year, the Johnsonburg Municipal Authority and the Borough of Ridgway will discuss connecting their water supply systems together to use one source as backup in the event of an emergency.
Ridgway Borough's environmental manager Paul McCurdy attended Tuesday night's Johnsonburg Municipal Authority meeting to discuss the concept.
Nancy R. Beimel, 70, of 759 Johnsonburg Rd. Elco Glen, St. Marys, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness of the past several months.
She was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 11, 1941, daughter of the late Frank and Helen Johnson Nottingham.
She had formerly lived in California and Reynoldsville.
Nancy enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an animal lover and loved her dog. She loved to travel, do ceramics, read and write poetry.
Dominick (Nick) Sette, 78, of 178 Evers Ave. St. Marys, died Friday Dec. 9, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born December 16, 1932 in Ridgway, son of the late Frank and Concettina Curado Sette.
On May 4, 1957, in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Beverly Klancer, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Ridgway schools. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company and Carbone, retiring in 1997 after 40 years of service.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Rams (1-0) jumped out to an insurmountable 20-point lead Friday night in a lights-out 60-35 win Friday night in their home opener over county rival St. Marys (0-1).

ST. MARYS â€“ The Johnsonburg Ramettes handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team a 41-35 non-league loss last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven in the opening game of the 2011-12 season for both squads.
This was the first game in four years that the Lady Dutch have played without the schoolâ€™s all-time scorer, Kayla Hoohuli, now a member of the Canisius College Golden Griffs basketball team.
Last nightâ€™s game was a close contest for 32 minutes as neither team was able to get a run. The Ramettes led 11-10 after one period, 20-18 at the half and 28-27 at the end of three quarters.
The Ridgway Area School District Board of Directors approved a resolution to not raise taxes above the PDE [Public Department of Education] index rate for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
According to board member Johna Holtz, the index rate for the district is 2.4 percent.
The approved resolution states that the district has determined that there will be no increase in the rate of any tax for the support of its public schools for the 2012-2013 fiscal year by more than the the index established by the PDE.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg wrestling team is looking to the upcoming season with optimism with a mix of new and returning wrestlers.
â€śWe should be a competitive young team,â€ť Johnsonburg coach Mike Votano said. â€śWe have three kids that have wrestled previously who havenâ€™t wrestled in the past couple years but theyâ€™re back out on the team.â€ť
Zebb Zilcosky will be wrestling at 126 pounds and Votano said he has high expectations for him along with Cory Schneider at 138 pounds.
Ridgway gymnastics will field a smaller amount of roster members this season and will have a solid core of seniors this season.
â€śWe have a smaller team, we have 11 this year and five are seniors,â€ť Ridgway coach Edna Maddalena said. â€śThis is probably the best mesh, the best group of girls with us getting along and helping each other in the gym that weâ€™ve had.â€ť
