Elsie L. Rogers, age 82, of 420 Lookout Ave., Ridgway, died Friday morning at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness. She was born Aug. 28, 1928 in Franklin, daughter of the late Carl M. and Elizabeth (Bennett) Henderson. She married Vernon E. Rogers on Jan. 10, 1952, he survives. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, was a past volunteer at Elk County General Hospital Thrift Shop, loved to play cards, go camping with her family, fish and play the slot machines.
She was a graduate of the Franklin High School.
June 23rd
The District 9 baseball and softball leagues crowned the following schools as divisional champs for the 2011 season, as well as selected the following players as all-stars.
There are three divisions: Baseball and Softball Large School, Baseball and Softball Small School North, Baseball and Softball Small School South.
Officials in the transportation department at North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC] announced the completion of a corridor safety analysis Wednesday with some surprising findings.

There was a small basement fire Thursday night at approximately 7 p.m. at Hotel Johnsonburg. Multiple fire units responded to the small fire in the unoccupied building. There were no initial reports regarding the fire, but there were no injuries.
David S. Lowdermilk, age 75, of 111 Filmore Ave., Ridgway died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his residence.
June 22nd
ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Legion baseball team was handed its first loss of the season in the form of a 7-0 setback by the Wilcox Legion Wednesday night at Berwind Park.
The St. Marys squad had three hits in the game on a double by Nick Burdick, and singles by Jordan Weinzierl and Jake Cortina.
Wilcox had nine hits in the game, led by Joe Holmberg with a triple and a single. Cole Peterson had a double and two singles, Jesse Reynolds had two singles, Frank Kocjancic had a double and Josh Mitchell had a single.
With a state budget possibly being in place by July 1, officials at the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission (NCPRPDC) are preparing for new times.
In the wake of the Marcellus Shale drilling, the Borough of Ridgway is considering several routes in selling water to drilling operators.
ST. MARYS – As part of its ongoing scholarship program, the Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF) awarded a total of 83 scholarships to local students this year totaling $77,225.
Of those scholarships, 20 were awarded to seniors from St. Marys Area High School, 19 from Ridgway Area High School, 17 from Elk County Catholic High School, 12 from Johnsonburg Area High School, six from DuBois Area High School, four from Brockway Area High School and two from Kane Area High School.

The Elk County Commissioners and members of the area's Tea Party group discussed a forensics program Tuesday morning during a board meeting.
"This forensics program goes back a long time, at least 18 months, when the grant was initially applied for through our Mental Health/Mental Retardation [MH/MR] program," said county Commissioner Ronald T. Beimel.
Initially, the MH/MR program, led by Cynthia Zembryki, received a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to reduce recidivism in area prisons.
