The Elk County Conservation District [ECCD] will advertise for a new technician position following an approval from the Elk County Commissioners to provide half of the funding.
ECCD Manager Steve Putt and chairman Russ Braun reported meeting with the commissioners to discuss funding possibilities for a resource conservation technician.
Mrs. Cathy Rodgers, age 79, a former Ridgway resident, went to be with her Lord Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, in Raleigh, N.C.
Mrs. Rodgers graduated from Gardner-Webb University. She lived in Ridgway for 12 years, was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and volunteered at the hospital. She worked for the American Cancer Society and enjoyed traveling, singing, walking and family gatherings. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Davie Lee Rodgers.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ A small fire reportedly originated in the basement of an unoccupied house along Main Street in Johnsonburg early Saturday morning. The fire has been ruled an arson, at least the ninth such case reported in Elk County since May 30.
Fire departments were called at 1:52 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 25 at 236 Main St. in Johnsonburg. The fire damaged the abandoned residential structure and State Police Fire Marshal Greg Agosti ruled the blaze to be arson.
Damage was reportedly minimal although a dollar estimate is not available at this time. There were no injuries reported.
June was a time of transition for South Street Botanicals in Ridgway, something owner Brandy Raubenstrauch says was simply cosmetic.
â€śI like change a lot,â€ť Raubenstrauch said. â€śThis also gave us the opportunity to help us increase our retail space and separate the Tea House.â€ť
The new layout features the gift shop in the garden conservatory where the Tea House was originally.
Sherry Myers, 43, of 89 Old Bradford Rd., Mt. Jewett, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at her residence.
Born June 22, 1969, in Kane, she was a daughter of Edward and Mary Cesario McClelland.Â On April 22, 1989, in Mt. Jewett, she married Russ Myers who survives.
Surviving, in addition to her husband,Â are two brothers, Joe McClelland of Mt. Jewett and Ed (Melissa) McClelland of Johnsonburg; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Michael McClelland.
Andrew C. Reigle, age 82, of 62 Steis Dr., Ridgway, passed away on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at his residence following a short illness.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1929 in Sandusky, Ohio, son of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Brauer) Reigle of Florida.
On July 17, 1948, he married Bettie Henry who still resides at their home in Ridgway. They lived in Pennsylvania for 25 years and owned the Shelvey Summit Ski Lodge. They then moved to Key Largo, Fla. for 20 years where Andrew loved to boat and fish. They moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to their family.
Martha L. Carnessali, age 94, of Route 219, Ridgway, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 Highland View Health Care in Brockway.
She was born July 8, 1918 in Crenshaw, daughter of the late Joseph and Sue Lescovensky Mehall. She married Aldo Carnessali, who preceded her in death in 1957.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp.
She is survived by a daughter, LaVonne M. Shugars of Brockport; a son, Gary Carnessali of Johnsonburg; a sister, Genevieve Salvadori of Brockport; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Flying Dove Ranch located along Old Red Mill Dam Road just outside of Ridgway will hold their Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be food, refreshments, games, horse and buggy rides, face painting, clowns, balloon animals and more. The ranch is conveniently located 8.5 miles north of Ridgway off of Montmorenci Road and encases visitors within its 82 acres of outdoor tranquility.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Borough of Johnsonburg officially terminated its contract with the Central Tax Bureau of Pennsylvania [CENTAX] at a special council meeting Thursday morning.
In its place officials voted unanimously to appoint H. A. Berkheimer as its tax collector.
"Right now we have an agreement with CENTAX to collect our local earned income tax," said borough manager Mary Polaski. "The Elk County Tax Collection Committee has recently cancelled their contract and has hired Berkheimer to replace them because CENTAX was not living up to the contract."
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The wastewater treatment plant upgrade project is in its final stages of completion.
During Tuesday's Johnsonburg Municipal Authority meeting, Uni-Tec Engineer Dan Guss said the project is in the process of being closed but due to a technical problem with the PENNVEST computer system they have been unable to process a recent payment request.
