Editor's Note: This article is an update to the one which appeared in the Thursday, Jan. 17 edition. Information was received from police that an attempted abduction at St. Marys Area High School earlier in the evening had not occurred, but the report came after the paper had already gone to print.
ST. MARYS â€“ City of St. Marys Police Chief Todd Caltagarone said that reports of an attempted abduction of a juvenile female by masked men outside St. Marys Area High School Wednesday evening were "proven to be unfounded."
KERSEY â€“ The Rural Higher Education Summit held Thursday at the Red Fern, thought to be the first in the region, brought together regional education providers, educators representing area school districts and state officials to discuss what is happening in rural education and the future needs of rural students.
The St. Marys City Police Department responded to an attempted abduction at the St. Marys Area High School on Jan. 16 at approximately 8 p.m. Upon completion of their investigation into the incident it was found no attempted abduction had taken place.

Ridgway gymnastics hosted Bellefonte in a meet held Wednesday night at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Bellefonte topped Ridgway in the team score. Bellefonte scored 109.975 team points while Ridgway had 97.95 team points.
"You know when they're getting better when they're not happy with their score because they want more," Ridgway coach Edna Maddalena said. "That's always a positive for a coach."
ST. MARYS â€“ According to scanner dialogue between police and Elk County Control, the attempted abduction of a female took place between approximately 7:55 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at St. Marys Area High School.
According to police, the female described her would-be abductors as two males wearing black ski masks and driving an older dark blue, navy or black passenger car with a back bumper that is falling off.
The Elk County Council on the Arts (ECCOTA) is encouraging residents to show their hearts are in the arts by attending the organization's gala taking place Saturday, Feb. 9 at Aiello's Cafe in Ridgway.
The 14th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous will once again be held in downtown Ridgway from Feb. 16-23.
Louis A. Allegretto, 85, of 4438 Rasselas Rd., Wilcox, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 16 at the Kane Community Hospital in Kane following a brief illness.
He was born on April 29, 1927 in Elmira, N.Y., son of the late Louis D. and Clara Markert Allegretto.
He married Patty Eaton on June 28, 1947; she preceded him in death in 1979. He later married Vona Lee Walters in 1981; she survives.
Betty Louise Casolo, 87, of 101 N. Mill Ave., Ridgway, died at her residence on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 17, 1925 in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Anthony and Flora Minard Gerg. On Nov. 26, 1947, she married John F. Casolo Sr., who preceded her in death on May 4, 2006.
Representatives of Seneca Resources Corporation discussed their proposal to convert a natural gas production well in Highland Twp. into an injection well at Monday's meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force.
